The Flyers don't have a 2nd ever. It's in Boston. Traded for MacDonald, then flipped for Boychuk

Oh I know. Vinny and Umberger are unbearable. But they;re gone this summer. The blue line I've been pleasantly surprised with. MDZ should get resigned, while one of the Gross/Schenn/Coburn group moves on, maybe for a 2nd rounder at the deadline which would be tasty. (similar to Mez last year)

So if they wind up with their 1st, 2nd and another 2nd. That would be tremendous for the upcoming draft which is deep.

- Just5

Coburn could get a 1st rounder back I think.
Not sure why they would trade him, even if he's struggled since coming back so far.

Maybe if they throw in a 3rd rounder someone would take VLC off their hands.

Umby they may be stuck with.

Yup
When they are bad they go all in.

Jake was still the best player on the ice for both teams which is a little bit of joy.

jake is unbelievable, if he played for any other team he'd be heralded

coburn i thought had his positioning mojo back tonight so that's good

umberger needs to go away ASAP

yep. he's far from the prime culprit, but he's not helping. all of his shots get blocked or are unscreened softies. he's getting beat to the outside on shots/passes down near the net and getting caught out of position. blech.

Yesterday some folks disagreed with my notion that the Flyers are a bad team. Well, as of this morning, only 6 teams have fewer points than our boys in orange and black. 6, out of 30.

Take away Voracek and Giroux and we're the Carolina Hurricanes folks. Heck Jake has been arguably the best player in the league so far this season and yet here we are. I have faith in Hextall's plan, but be prepared, a lot of patience will be required.

I've followed this team since the early 70s, I want them to win in the worst way. But it won't be this year friends. This is a bad team.

Aube Kubel has not played since 11/09 after taking a hit to his knee from Quebec's Adam Erne (Tampa Bay pick)

His team didn't even announce the injury or any time frame that he'd be out.

I'm not disagreeing. But they might end up being a bad team that makes the playoffs.

They're 2 points out of 3rd, with a game in hand. The East, and the Metro in particular, is a mess of teams that are going to be close all season long.

I stand by my pre-season thoughts. They could finish anywhere from 2nd-7th and I wouldn't bat an eye

Just don't want them to be close and make an overpayment in a trade to make the playoffs.

That's my view as well. I don't have an issue if they trade to shore up a weak spot, but no trading picks or young guys for short term help.

Coburn leaves a lot to be desired with his skating ability. He should be skating the puck in the zone like streit/del zotto. He stops before the blue line when you know he can easily beat that man. Frustrating. There aren't a handful of defenseman that can skate like him in this league, yet he's only effective on one side of the ice

Maybe, but I don't see it. Columbus is only going to get better as their injured players return, same for the Rangers. Maybe they finish 4th at best, but I'm guessing 5th through 7th is more realistic.

Like OB said, the worst thing they could do is think that they are a bubble team and make a shortsighted move just to get in. However, I don't think Hextall would do something like that. Honestly, I'd rather they finish 7th than 5th. May as well improve their chances in the lottery and pick as high as possible.

I'm willing to give Coburn a little time. When players are out for as long as he was, they usually take a few weeks to get in sync.

That being said, if someone is willing to trade a 1st or more for him at the deadline, they need to strongly consider moving him.

If they are in that spot I'd give strong thought to making moves to gain picks

Agreed. Especially when you consider how much contenders seem to overpay for dmen at the deadline.

Agreed. If they're missing, might as well miss by a lot and get a better pick. I'm not discounting that possibility. I'm just not discounting the possibility of them going on a bit of a run.
