Markov is turning 36 before the new year. Weaver is gonna be pushing 37. Gonchar is 40. if he plans on keeping all 3 in the top 6 for the year, managing those minutes is going to be very difficult.

Seemed more like Ted Leonis forcing McPhee's hand.

it's just weird. Erat was a second liner. Forsberg had JUST been drafted what, 12th overall or something? and he was considered a potential top 5 pick before the draft. i remember hearing a lot of speculation that Montreal was considering him at 3.

Hype?

What hype?

He's a 39 years old dmen who could potentially help the PP, nothing more. He played a good 20 minutes last night.

I think Montreal was only considering him at 3 if both Yakupov and Galchenyuk went 1-2.

They got rid of Moen and put my mind at ease about potentially bringing back Bouillon should there have been an injury problem. Oh and his contract expires at season's end so he can go (frank) off buh-bye then and if he helps with the PP all the better.

Smart move.

Injuries happen, having 8 serviceable defensemen is not a bad thing.

I suspect the Gonchar/Emelin pairing was the plan from the start. Gonchar's real job is not only to put the powerplay back on track, but more importantly, to put Emelin back on track to earning the top 4 money he's being paid.
