Maybe I wasn't watching with the right perspective, or maybe it's because he's only playing his 4th game of the year, but I wasn't overly impressed by Gonchar. That's not to say I was unimpressed, either...I was just apathetic. I wasn't sure what the hype was about, because he didn't look like he was doing anything special.

Most obvious to me is that he looked slow. Really slow.

Hype?

What hype?

He's a 39 years old dmen who could potentially help the PP, nothing more. He played a good 20 minutes last night.

The SN pregame. The articles about the trade. The blogs. It was all-Gonchar, all-the-time.

No arguing that. And again, it's his 4th game after an injury. I realize he's not at 100%.

Foot speed was slow, no doubt. BUT...unlike, well, the rest of the team on the PP, as soon as he had the puck, he either shot it, or knew who he wanted to pass it to. There wasn't a lot of holding onto the puck and skating around trying to set up any perfect play. He kept it simple, and therefore kept possession for our team. Hopefully others will take note.

What i liked is that he fired a ton on net - 11 shots - granted he missed a lot but I like that he's a shoot first type of guy.

We need more of that.

I was a little despondent when I got home and flipped on the PVR and it was actually a hockey game, yes.

I don't have a problem with fights.

I have a problem with staged fights and useless goons.

Howard, how will you deal with this open defiance and repudiation of your character?

I like how he's skating almost backwards towards the offensive zone (looking at his D partner)...seemed to throw off the bruins. Then he'll either pass backwards or turn around to "start" his rush already at full speed.

Only if Therrien keeps using him 20 minutes a game... (which we all know he'll do...he's Michel (frank)ing Therrien).

after we lose out next game we will probably be blaming everything on him. which is unfair. because really it should be blames on Desharnais.

Markov is turning 36 before the new year. Weaver is gonna be pushing 37. Gonchar is 40. if he plans on keeping all 3 in the top 6 for the year, managing those minutes is going to be very difficult.

That sorta play was good enough for him when he was in Ottawa and was used to playing the Leafs
