I'd really like a shake-up in that bottom 6. A man can dream I suppose.

3rd line: VDV-Bellemare-Akeson
4th line: Umberger-Vinny-Rinaldo

When Raffl comes back I'd move him into VDV's spot and just bench one of Vinny or Umberger.

Again.. Just wet dreams.

He played like poop.

Although you aren't going to develop a young kid with the ice time they have given him, and with the line-mates he has played with this year.

At least there is a potential for him to grow. Just waive him already, its beyond bad. I'd rather he get the chance elsewhere.

Agreed. That's what I was saying all along. Give the kid a real chance. I think Vinny and Umberger were worse. But we know they're not getting benched. Read was bad, too. So was Couturier.

I'd say Voracek, Giroux, Simmonds, Schenn and maybe Bellemare had acceptable or good games. So did Del Zotto. That's a generous list

Every time a player is in the lineup, and out on the ice on a shift, he has a real chance. Every line was bad tonight at ES. Flyers were sloppy with the puck. Lots of turnovers, lots of passes in skates, lots of missed passes. Poor execution on breakouts. Lost the majority of the puck battles, and puck races. It's a miracle they only lost by one goal. Probably because they were playing a team that had lost 9 straight. Columbus looked like the hungrier team.

Like the look of Umberger/Lecavalier/Bellemare late in the game. Hope to see that line next game.

Bad? No, horrible. Flyers were a one line team tonight. Couturier's line was a mess. Read's lost in the damned forest, Couturier struggled all night. Lecavalier, Umberger and Akeson were a disaster. None of those three played worth a poop tonight.

Awful defensive breakdowns all night. Bad passing, especially coming out of their own end. The Flyers got sloppy and failed to work hard enough to erase the mistakes. Just a piss poor game

Nah, they were together in the third, after Akeson took the penalty.

They looked a bit better than they did with Akeson, still looked pretty horrid

They had a couple of good chances in the 3rd. Bellemare should have shot that puck. He had room on the short side. The pass was in too tight, and Lecavalier couldn't do anything with it.

I thought the Akeson penalty was a complete accident.

I know this has been said earlier, but I think it might be time to have Voracek apart from Giroux. The problem with having the two together is that after them, the rest of the forwards are borderline 3rd/4rth liners except completely random flashes here and there.

Voracek is playing at so high a level that he may be able to carry a second line and get some guys going. So:

Schenn-Giroux-Read
Simmonds-Couturier-Voracek
Rinaldo-Bellamare-Akeson
Umberger-VLC-Vandevelde

I would even switch Read and Akeson for a few games and see how Akeson plays without an Umberger or VLC or Rinaldo on his line.

Nothing to do with it. Columbus didn't change their approach the whole game to their credit. They didn't sit back at any point. They kept charging, and kept winning the battles. They played like a hungry team.

Agreed. The whole team except the first line looked to be inept and not ready to get back to game-speed and intensity. Of course, Akeson gets the hook late, not that he wasn't among the many who played like crap. Good news is tomorrow we get right back at it, with a chance to redeem, bad news, it will be against a solid Montreal team.

Akeson is way, way down on the list of players to look at in this game. The top line was good in the offensive zone, but that line and every other line spent time hemmed in for long shifts. Terrible puck management all game long. Penalties and poor PK. Lots of lost battles, poor execution on the breakout. You name it tonight.

I actually thought the penalty he took was a good one. It would have been a 2 or 3 on one.

Read looks hesitant and disengaged like someone who sustained a recent head injury or something. When he flubbed the puck to put himself offsides. Man that was the cherry on top of his poopy flavored sundae

we lost to a team that hasn't won since oct. bring on mcdavid
- 2Real

That's the most frustrating part. Being consistently inconsistent never gets you a high draft pick. It gets you 11th-23rd overall. Draft that way for years and years in today's NHL where every team can scout every guy and its hard to ever assert yourself over anyone that way.

Not saying they should tank but boy, did the Clarke/Homer method of band-aiding this team get us nowhere.

He's just struggling. He struggled with the puck all game. He wasn't the only one.

I can't disagree with any of this. And it isn't limited to just tonight. I don't know what happened to him over the summer or preseason but he looks utterly useless.

It's been all year though aside from one or two games.

Its not a funk. That's never been his mo since he's come into the league. Even if he'd cold scoring wise the rest of his game has always been rock solid. This year is something else altogether, he doesn't get or give himself chances hardly ever

It's absolutely a funk. He'll come out of it. Happens to every player at one time or another.
