Richie Ashburn
Dr. J
Chase Utley
Reggie White

I have to respectfully disagree. Parent and Clarke brought Philly 2 championships during a very bleak time in Philly sports history, those guys, and really all the Broad Street Bullies are as beloved as anyone in Philly sports history.

So does Rinaldo just take a run at Hartnell with a heavy clean hit and just get this going tonight?

He'll bounce right off Hartnell

True, but Hartnell will fall 3 strides later for no apparent reason

Personally I kind of wonder if Hartnell would still be around if he wasnt given such a generous extension.

On a shorter deal, he's still a good player.

If Hartnell wasn't given the extension, he wouldn't have been around. And if a shorter deal was offered, the cap hit would've had to of been higher.

Or a GM that didn't bend over so much when giving extensions.

Anyway.

Does anybody here think that Hartnell was one of the most beloved athletes in Philly sports history?
- MJL

By some, sure. But I would say he drove most people nuts too many times to put him in that category though.

I don't think there's a Flyer that fits into that category probably since LeClair. Kimmo maybe.

He might fall, and he has his faults, but he's still an effective player.

If the deal was solely made for hockey reasons, it's terrible. But we all know the cap implications and the sending a message portion. It sucks that Umberger is struggling. Nobody wants to see him struggle. Nobody wants to see anyone on the team struggle.

But it is what it is. Maybe he gets a goal tonight, gets some confidence back and starts playing better.

He was popular, not sure I'd go as far as beloved. Not even sure Timonen was beloved.

he got on my nerves at times, but i definitely think Hartnell holds a unique place in Flyers history.

Honestly since the 05 lockout, I'd say he's been one of the most colorful characters in the entire league. And i think other fanbases would admit that too.

I like Hartsy. He's a good guy and a good player. I'm not mad he was traded, I just wish they got a player who could bring something positive

Was Hartnell beloved in Philly? He was very well liked, but the guys I would call beloved in recent years would be:
Brian Dawkins
Chase Utley
Roy Halliday
Kimmo Timonen

He's not at that level

- BiggE

no matt carle?

Is he still though? He got a pretty mixed reaction at the alumni game.

I guess we'll see on Thursday...

I still think it an embarrassment on the franchise's part to not have 88 in the rafters.

He was beloved, until the war with Clarke became a distraction. By the time he was traded to NY, there was no consensus on people loving him.

However, I think that time healed those wounds.
