i dont see him ever gaining puck skill, shot, or positioning acumen.
- stayinthefnnet

I really wouldn't be looking for him to improve his skill set as far as puck skills, and shot. I don't think that's possible at this point. But I do think he could, and I emphasize could, become better defensively, better in his decision making, and become a better PKer. This is a kid with limited skill who worked his way up and made it to the NHL. He deserves credit for that.

No shock that Stern would have no idea who Bernie is/was. I mean, Howard doesn't really strike me as a sports guy. You would hope that the research people would do their jobs tho. Makes me cringe when I hear the sports people on comcast say names incorrectly.

Just thinking but who would get you more in a trade:

Akeson or Rinaldo?

- J35Bacher

Who knows. Lots of variables there. What kind of player is a team looking for? Tye McGinn got the Flyers a 3rd round pick. I'm not ready to give up on Akeson yet. I think there is some potential there. Not as much as some others think, but I think there is some there. It's still early in the season. If Akeson is a player then we'll find out. But just too many excuses made for him. The culpability and responsibility is on the player. Just as it will be if he makes it.

Howard openly admits to not knowing or giving a (frank) about sports, no issue there. He's got plenty of staffers who do, and one is a philly native. That's what surprised me. He seemed very unprepared which is very unlike Howard.

Good. If he's focused on Berube, his game may suffer. He may trip over himself trying to get even.

Hartnell has been a point per game player so far this year. The Jackets are 1-8-1 in their last 10 games and pretty much have been the worst team in the League over the last 3 weeks. I think the game tomorrow night will be a white washing.

I would disagree that Berube is under immense pressure to win now. And how Berube has handled Akeson, is due to trying to develop the player.
- MJL

It's just my take...I think in the larger/longer term picture, Flyers brass are on a multi-year plan of building the team into a contender, and are pushing a patient course, but in the short term, Berube likely knows that, as a coach of a big market team and the pressure that brings, his tenure as coach depends largely on the team's shorter term results. I've seen it before where coaches in such a position might hesistate to put say, a smallish rookie type in meaningful role where he might make mistakes as he is developing and going through the growing pains etc., as opposed to bigger, more physical players who are perceived to be "safer" bets to play minutes. I could be just reaching for a rational explanation though, so I could be off the mark.

It'll help if the Flyers haven't got used to days off. We've all seen bad starts after extended periods of no games.

Hartnell's probably in town already and taking some of the boys out tonight. Sly bastard.

Yeah... I read somewhere he was going to dinner with Simmonds tonight. I think Todd Richards is probably going to be the first coach fired. Hasn't helped their cause that Bobrovsky has been injured. They went in the tank as soon as he went down.

Horton is done. Dubinsky hasnt played since his surgery. Johnson was just suspended for 3 games. Bob is out.. just goes to show how much impact he has on this team.

They lost Gaborik for nothing, and lost the Carter trade big time (Voracek, Coots, Cousins). They should be better next season when their first round prospects make it up to the big league (Milano,Dano,Bjorkstrand, Rychel)

I think what trumps all of that, is that Berube was willing to play the guy in the most imporant games he has been behind the bench as the Flyers head coach for. The playoff series last year against the Rangers. I think that pretty much proves that if Akeson plays well, Berube will put him in the lineup. Was Berube not coaching under the same pressure last year in the playoffs?
