I always felt Stephenson gave up 1-2 softies each game.
- nastyflyergirl

He was pretty good in that series, but he was no Bernie for sure

Chief's response was blunt and then he softened it a bit so as not to come off as ripping Hartnell.
- bmeltzer

Didn't he already rip Hartnell over the summer?

Actually, the line on the game is this: Will Hartnell score two goals and take one undisciplined penalty, score one goal with two bad penalties or just take three penalties?

From 73 to his neck injury in the fall of 75, Parent played as well as any goalie ever.

73-74 1.89gaa, 12 shutouts, 47 wins: Vezina, Smythe 1st team all star
74-75 2.03gaa 12 shutouts 44 wins: Vezina, Smythe, 1st team all star

He was that damn good!

- BiggE

He always rose to the ocassion in big games. He never flopped around and seldom went down. Minimized/controlled rebounds better than anyone. He wasn't a great puck handler but knew enough not to do anything stupid. I think his regular season stats from 73-75 were padded to the extent that on many nights the opposition was literally afraid to touch the puck. No pressure.

I'd like to see the goalie's of today, play with pads, the same size Parent and other goalies of that era, played with.

You have to balance the fear factor with how often that team was shorthanded. While their PK was excellent, your goalie is still key to the pk and Parent was unreal!

He did excel at opening the bench door though

I'll never forget the late season NBC afternoon game in 74. After sitting for over 20 games, Shero gave Taylor the start. When pressed by an incredulous throng of reporters asking why Taylor. Shero calmly, without missing a beat, Looked up and said "Its his turn"

Priceless!

Favell was so hot and cold. When he was hot, he was as good as anyone but man when he went cold it was just ugly
