Leddy is RFA so he's almost a lock to stay.....
- Ur Not Me

He keeps playing the way he is he's going to demand a high number. Doubtful "bridge deal" situation.

regardless of play, I believe he'll make between $3.5-4.5m in comparison to some of the deals 2day to Voynov, Josi, etc... That's becoming the norm for Dmen

I know we're all anxious but I don't want 1/3 of our defense to have a grand total of 3 regular season NHL games under it's belt. Hickey is a quality bottom pairing guy and for now there's no reason to push him out. Visnovsky, when healthy, still has plenty left in the tank also. But he and the Isles may go their separate ways, since he is UFA next year.

I just think it will be tough with Vish's age and injury history. I like Hickey and he is a fine bottom pair guy. Will be interesting to see how things play out.

I think if Isles make the PO's, have a gut feeling Boychuk could resign for like $5.5m-6.0m per year, question is how long of a contract bc he's 30yrs old now. Would like 5yrs but 6 might have to be offered???

Like I said, I see Viz and the team parting ways. But regardless, if he's not injured he still carries plenty of value. What, I personally think, is likely to happen is that he'll be searching out one final multi-year deal around his current salary and the Isles will only be offering one year at a reduced rate. That's why I think he's going to walk, he's going to be in search of either one final payday or one last shot at a Cup.

Frankly, I won't be upset if he re-signs for a year OR if he walks. A multi-year deal is the only thing I hope they avoid.

So am I but the contracts these days usually extend a yr or two beyond the players expected use to the club. Just the way it is these days and Boychuck(if he continues playing the way he is) should and will command a little more than that. Look at Stralman's contract. Orpik. Reality is defensemen are being signed at a premium. More so than I've ever seen in my lifetime.

Because teams know that, generally speaking, valuable defensemen don't get traded. They're risking cap issues far down the line to ensure they keep quality guys around for awhile.

Plus everyone keeps talking about how invaluable he will be for the playoffs. Unfortunately theres nothing to back that up. He could be the second coming of Nash for all anyone knows?
- Cptmjl

I think I am the only one saying that.. but I believe it. I would not give up Strome. (I wouldn't give up Dal Colle or Pullock either for the record). I would give up Bailey, Reinhardt and anyone else not on the current roster though for him.. including picks. Bailey, Reinhardt, Mayfield and Coldberg.. etc.

One of snows better qualities is getting players signed to great reasonable contracts. Have to give credit where its due. Hopefully that remains true.

Going to be tough to fit Reinhart and Pulock in. I would take any money Isles were going to give Vish and give to Boychuck and others.

I have to imagine that out of that list:

Boychuk is going to be in the $5M-$6M range

Nelson/Leddy are going to be in the $3M-$4M range

Lee/Hickey are going to be in the $1M-$1.5M range

I think Carkner and Conacher will be gone and I think they'll hang on to Boulton at <$1M

I think they'll look to sign Boychuk, Nelson and Leddy all 5-6 years and Lee about 3 years. Hickey probably 2 or 3.

This is where great GMs separate themselves from good and bad ones. Managing the salary cap and keeping a competitive team on the ice is difficult, but can be done.

Fine with me, but they need to lower his number. They need to use cap space to lock up some of the other guys. Leddy and Boychuk, if they come back, are going to cost about a couple million per seaons more each.

Just cannot see Vish and the Isles working out. I'm fine with it as Reinhart and or Pulock should be more than ready next year if not sooner.

Heading down to Miami for the Bills/Dolphins game and then its a weekend of Islanders Hockey. Pretty pumped to see them on the road. Only games I've seen on the road were at MSG & Meadowlands

I saw them in Tampa in 08. Real barn-burner, 1-0 Tampa. That year, the isles and Tampa finished at the bottom of the league. The arena is nice. I remember the stands feeling really steep. Maybe that was because my seats were in the top tier?
