Being close with Tavares, I hope the Isles land Kane. Scorers with his potential do not become available all too often. I would part with Reinhart, and either Bailey or Grabner. Having Kane helping to increase scoring will only help guys like Boychuk and leddy re sign, and it will help attract other FA's when needed.
- islesrbettr

Does anyone actually know that Tavares and Kane are "close" or even friends? Or does everyone just assume that because they won WJC gold they're best buds?

I would trade a lot for Kane. That toughness and skill combo are very hard to come by and in playoffs become huge assets. Top line of JT kane and Ok in beast mode would be FAR better than our current options IMO. If it took Baily, Reinhardt, and someone else I would make that trade.

Leddy has been great. Even the penalty he hot last night was a good play. I could see A- Mack or Strait getting turned around and giving up a great scoring op in that play. Leddy stayed with the man skating backwards the whole way. He never does the dumb stick check or waving at puck idiocy We have gotten used to.. Very solid on both ends and wow can he fly.

How angry are we going to be when if they keep playing like this and they start talking Jack Adams award.
- niteislander

If they keep playing like this Cappy can remain coach as long as he pleases. I think we all agree that its the end that counts, not the means. If they're winning, then they're doing something right.

I would think the package would be Strome, Reinhart and Lee for Kane....

The Crappy thing about all this is that we're 10-5 and only a few points ahead of what, 13th in the conference? The encouraging part of this is that we continue to get better and after October history shows very few teams in a playoff position miss.
- Isles_since_6

The points separation is misleading, since there have only been 15 games so far. As the season rolls on, that number will become larger. The important thing is that the team is humming right now. You can see that they just look like a solid team. they look much better than a bunch of teams below them in the standings right now. They're winning and the wins are solid, not cheap, lucky fortunate wins. They're dictating play, controlling action. Everything from the goal out looks like they're under control, not running around and belly-flopping on the ice and converging on the crease like in seasons past.

Doubt it. A big D prospect (Griff, Pulock) and a roster forward (Bailey, Grabner) should get it done.

Then forget it. Two top five picks and a real solid player in Lee is too much for any Kane not named Patrick. I'd offer Strome and Mayfield. If they wanted another piece, it could be a guy like Collberg or something. Othewise, I'll stand pat.

Way too much for a young forward that has never played a full 82 game season and only hit 30 goals one time. Toss in the perceived attitude issues and that is an obscene over-payment.

I don't know if I'd trade Strome for Kane. Strome is already a solid NHL player and is rapidly getting better at both ends of the ice. He had been really good on the PK lately and is putting up points. He could very well end up better than Kane. I would rathe give up Reinhart or Pulock. I know D men are valuable but D prospects are risky. Plus adding Leddy helps lessen the blow.

Plus everyone keeps talking about how invaluable he will be for the playoffs. Unfortunately theres nothing to back that up. He could be the second coming of Nash for all anyone knows?

Aside from this conversation being silly and not-a-real-thing because Eklund said it...I see no need for him. Our offense is doing just fine without him. I don't want to blow it up just to add him.

No thanks. If Boychuk walks and visnovsky retires we're gonna need them unless you want Strait as a regular dman.

Exactly right! I'm not thinking of moving Reinhart or Pulock while Boychuck is still unsigned.

Leddy, Boychuk and Vis are pending free agents. If the isles can't bring them back for whatever reason, having guys like Griff and Pulock will be vital. WPG isn't going to give Kane away. It's going to take something good. Strome would be demanded for sure. I can live with not making that deal as well.

I would have no issue with Griff and Pulock possibly replacing Vish and Hickey next year.

I would miss visnovsky but I think having them in the lineup next year with our top four would be pretty damn good, if we can sign Boychuk. That's a defense that could be set for several years if we are able to lock him up.

I know we're all anxious but I don't want 1/3 of our defense to have a grand total of 3 regular season NHL games under it's belt. Hickey is a quality bottom pairing guy and for now there's no reason to push him out. Visnovsky, when healthy, still has plenty left in the tank also. But he and the Isles may go their separate ways, since he is UFA next year.

Guy was an absolute machine last game.
