Happy Veterans Day to any and all vets on here!

- Stripes77

About 10 years ago I wished Charlie, a WWII guy, and a real class act, a Happy Veteran's Day. He told me he appreciated the sentiment, but that - as a vet - he had seen and done things that he could never be happy about, things that he had only done and endured out of a sense of duty, and because they were necessary.

So I asked Charlie, "What's the better way for me to express it?"

Charlie said, "It makes me feel better to know that the people who didn't have to do those things, and endure them, appreciate the fact that we did."

So for Charlie, and for all those who have served, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

Ive noticed that. I figure the best way to honour the troops is not be a Richard bag like those Sens - Leafs fans in the video above. You know, people from a like country dumping beer and tackling each other down a flight of stairs over their crappy hockey teams the day before rememberence day in a game that had to be rescheduled because soldiers literally gave their lives so that game could be played.

They're not though.

Buffalo: 20 goals for, 54 goals against in 16 games
Rochester: 38 goals for, 39 goals against in 13 games

Goaltending has fallen apart for Rochester right now (19 goals allowed in the last 5 games)

the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting results.

I thought it was expecting DIFFERENT results

Doesn't matter, because that's not actually the definition of insanity anyway.

Nobody expects Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel to take this team to the playoffs next year. They will most likely get another very high pick next year as well. Among Reinhart, McEichelfin (I'm still not ruling out something stupid happening where the Sabres miss out on both), and whoever the 2016 lottery pick is, they will have quite a few potential marquee players to build around. It's the "build around" part they have to get right, something Edmonton and the Islanders have not done.

Like trade for secondary scoring?
Like add depth to the forward lines?
Like add a 4th that can play in the tough situation for the first time in years?
Like draft defenceman to be a part of that core?
like sign some vet defenders?
Etc etc.

And that's another thing; mact had only had the job for just over 1 full season. And he's forced to acquire only secondary players. And still has to overpay for them.
Another one of my favs is "why haven't the oilers made a huge trade for a star player u need!?"
And generally in the same post; "haha, no will waive their ntc to play for your Sh1tty team"

An extra mil + for at least an extra year is the going rate for mact to sign fayne and Pouliot types.

It's like u chose to ignore every point of the post and continue with the ignorance of the myths your peddling.
Mact still has a ton of time to put the team together to match the success of those teams who 'did it the apparent right way".

Pittsburgh's last non playoff team didn't have Malkin on it as it was 05/06.

They drafted Staal #2.

Malkin and Staal were both rookies in 06/07 when they had a 1st rd exit.

So they did not in fact have a lottery pick with both Crosby and Malkin on the team.

- dadeadhead

So no malkin on the last lottery team. Just Crosby on that team with its 5th consecutive lottery pick.

Thank you for clearing this up

It's an effing cliche.
And 'different' was omitted by accident.

Technically anyone that misses the playoffs is a lottery team. So that's just under 50% of the teams yearly. It's just since 2013 where each of those 14 teams that miss the playoffs have a chance at the #1 pick. They were, however, still in the lottery. They just couldn't move up more than 4 spots.

The point doesn't stand. Just because it's a lame catch phrase people use, doesn't make it right.

It's actually more of an aphorism.

It's definitely not my favorite aphorism.

I think the point that a 'lottery pick' is a top 5 was fairly well established in relation to all references made.
Any subsequent change to the rules or whatever we consider a lottery now has no bearing on the post

DAllas holds 8% so they free up $3.1MM in space. Dun dun dun!

They now have just over 5.5MM in cap space. hmmm Who has a salary around that number who has been rumored to go there?
