That trade was one in a million . Boston already regrets making it.

that's my point. Rebuilding isn't just losing. Its knowing you are a joke to the rest of the league and accepting it. After 8 years of being a laughing stock my club still sucks but I cant be defensive... what would I say.
- gzatron

Well, now I guess I HAVE to hope it doesn't take 8 years!

you might want to take down that max Domi thing..
- gerbe75pts

Do you really think he will ever reach 100 points come on now.
Only Crosby breaks 100 points now a days and Domi is not crosby. His best season he will have is 80 points which would put him top 20 in points that season which is pretty good. He is not 100 point player!

Pretty much

Someone like Spezza or Staal is the best player usually "available" via trade.

You are one of the dumbest sabre fans i know. The only way to succeed in this league is with top end talent which you only get high in the draft, which means being bad for a couple years. All the top teams in the league have player that were taken top 5 or 3 in the draft in multiple years. How else do expect the sabres to become a stanely cup favorite. no one is trading a crosby, toews, kopitar, bergeon, or Pietangelo. You have to pick high.

I hate these fans that want us to try to make playoffs. We cant we dont have the talent right now. We picked up the best players we could and it doesnt matter we are a bad team. We need are players to grow and improve and draft high one more year.

Get mcdavid or Eichel please

- hanleyaj

You dont know me first of all. Second you think its just that easy huh? wel just be bad for a couple years and all of the sudden become a cup favorite? and I am dumb because im questioning this theory? get real man.

PS. kopitar, bergeon, or Pietangelo were not top 5 picks so you dont need to be dead last to get talent in the draft

Myers ended up looking better than Ehrhoff did last year, in large part because Ehrhoff mailed it in.
- buffalofan19

Myers sucked in the beginning of the year and didn't start playing well until the last 20 games

He was 4th overall.

Shea Weber was a 2nd rounder.

well said

a lot of things need to go right.

u need to insulate them abit while theyre young. need strong goaltending behind them as they go through some defensive growing pains. needs some luck through trades and free agency etc etc etc

I think a weak defensive group and zero insulation for those oiler kids while they lost for 4 straight years has really put a crack in their confidence and they are struggling to just turn it around now. just because management said by now they should be really doesn't mean much.

im not saying buffalo is or isn't that mold, just saying that a lot of things could go wrong through rebuilds.

Point is valid, but the numbers are overwhelmingly in favour of the tank. I'd rather try it that way than push for 9th and pray that our 11th-14th overall turns into kopitar.

This is where the Sabres seem to be taking a different approach than the Oilers did. It's why Reinhart was sent back. It's why Grigorenko was sent to Rochester. I'm fairly certain it's why Pysyk hasn't been recalled from Rochester, as he was initially assigned there because he missed most of training camp. It's why they made the trade for Gorges, bought out Ehrhoff and Leino, and signed Gionta and Moulson. They knew that Leino and Ehrhoff were not going to be good guys for the locker room and wanted to get the bad attitudes out of here. However, they did make a huge mistake in signing Meszaros, because I think he's got a worse attitude than Ehrhoff did and he's a huge liability on the ice.

Still a lot better off finally committing and doing the total rebuild . Instead of our annual march to 9th or 10th . Getting a middle of the road average player . Why can't Buffalo get that generational talent for once ?

For every Kopitar, there is 15 Drew Staffords

For every 10 Stamkos/Hall/ Crosby's there is one Erik Johnson or Daigle

+1, especially considering who's at the top of the draft this year.

agreed.
wholeheartedly

the definition of insanity is trying the same thing over and over and over and expecting different results.

the road has been painful, and theres no guarantee we ever even get there. but I have no qualms about the teardown the oilers did. a decade of constantly trying to sign every secondary player they could, constantly trading and robbing peter to pay paul etc etc etc. it wasn't working.

im glad the injury bug hit so hard in 2009 and we were forced to see the reality that our team was mediocre and our prospect pool was empty. a few months later we got tayor hall.

And considering that the sabres GM truly enjoys evaluating players/scouting.
I think for this team, rebuilding through the draft is a better option than hoping players become available through free agency or trades.
There's no guarantee in either path. But I think the draft rebuild is a little safer.
