Question: Until 1998, the Winter Olympics did only allowed amateur players to play in the Olympics. However, Hakan Loob played a number of seasons for the Calgary Flames, and then represented Sweden in the 1994 Olympics (the Forsberg goal games). How is that possible?

At the Oilers game on Tuesday, an annoying father sat in the seats behind me along with his friend and a few of his young children. He has sat there before and is one of those know-it-alls that knows nothing about the game, but insists on spewing incorrect information all game long. This game was no different...

About halfway through, his young son says "Daddy, the Flyers goalie is really good" and he barks back "no he's actually horrific, one of the worst goalies in the league. All he does is give up rebounds on every shot." My dad and I looked at each other dumbfounded. I wanted to say something because I hate to see a younger generation brought up like that, but chose not to. Instead, on every save Mason made and held on to (which was nearly every one) I made sure I said loud enough for him to hear "no rebound there!"

I feel bad for children who have to be brought up in this manner.

Edit: Some people just love to be haters. On opening night, this same guy told his son that Simmonds is "the dirtiest player in the league but since he's a Flyer we can root for him." Can't believe I almost forgot to include that.

Loob was playing back in Sweden at the time and they don't pay in American money, so he was allowed.

/seriously I have no idea

Like you said, some people are only happy when they have something to complain about. I call these people "Eagles fans."

When the 2012/2013 season finally opened, Bryzgalov got the start. There was this really annoying high school/college kid in front of me. The Penguins took the first shot, and Bryzgalov made an easy save. The kid screams, at the top of his lungs, "BRYZ YOU SUCK!!!" From that point on, I clearly stated my appreciation for every nice save he made during that game (all but 2 shots). But yeah, some people just want to hate hate hate.

That's what I was actually thinking, but I'd still have to argue that his amateur status was voided by his time spent in Calgary.

It's incredible isn't it? How can someone even enjoy sports or life if all they're going to do is hate on everything? I'd think it would take the fun out of the game, no?

Their enjoyment is hating. They get off on it. Just look at 2Real.

Or the fact that his Swedish team he played for likely was paying him as well.

I'm sure there was some ridiculous loophole because Olympic politics is second to FIFA as far as corrupt sports organizations go.

Hell, I enjoy seeing the Penguins, Rangers, Cowgirls, Giants, etc lose, so of course I can be a hater towards rival teams. But when it comes to my own teams, no chance I could hate like that and still enjoy the game.

Sweden found a Loobhole in the rules that year.

Do you really want to argue based on a nine game sample and ignore the other 73 games he has played for the Flyers?

It kind of sounds like everybody wants to argue, so can we just continue to do so without questioning whether we want to?

The calculator falls on the floor as he grabs the keyboard. The phone doesn't move. The calculator is moved from one side of the desk to the other.

No. Last season he was 27th and 25th. We can keep going backwards if you'd like but it's only going to get worse.
