Boosh had a nice run in Phoenix, I think they are both considered good goalies not great
- vejim

Didn't Boosh give up both the Ovechkin backwards on the butt goal as well as the Rick Nash stickhandle around 12 billion people goal?

I think Mason is a much better/more consistent goalie than Boosh.

Boosh's best year was his rookie season. All of his career highs came that year, and really never got close to that again.

Wins:20
Save %: .918
GAA: 1.91

He was a goalie that hovered around a SV% of .900 for his career.

MAF is generally above average in the regular season, and somewhere from "average" to "meltdown-prone" in the postseason. He was good enough to win the Penguins a Cup, but he wasn't outstanding a la Tim Thomas 2011 or Jonathan Quick 2012.

Would give him the extension that the Pens just did??

He did set the NHL shutout streak during his time in Phoenix.

I would, because that's the going rate for a legitimate NHL starter, and because it creates a sense of normalcy (for better or for worse).

Weak sauce. Thread needs more Umberger & Lecavalier.

.... and, from a previous generation, Anders Hedberg and Thomas Gradin. Also Nicklas Sundström and Samuel PÄhlsson from the Forsberg generation.

Couple of other weird small town hockey factories:

Kladno (pop. 70k): Jagr, Plekanec, Voracek, Pavelec, Frolik, Pivonka, Frank Kaberle, Sekac

Voskresensk (pop. 91k): Larionov, Slava Kozlov, Kamensky, Markov, Zelepukin, Berezin, Loktionov

oulu, finland has a pop of about 190k and produced 13 nhl players, but only a few of which had lengthy careers like routsalainen and pitkanen.

Claude Giroux is tied for the league lead in SOG, resulting in a little over a 6% shooting percentage. He also leads the league in faceoffs lost but is near the league lead in faceoffs won.

Lecavalier is fine people. How often in his Flyers career has he been put on a line where he can succeed? He has played LW, RW.... a position he has never played and hes playing on a line with the corpse of Umberger and VDV. Yeah its all his fault that his 5 on 5 play struggles. You see the plays he makes when placed on the ice with talent around him.....

They've tried everything short of bumping G off the top-line... what stones are there left to turn?

I got a great trade. Lets move Umberger to Colorado for Briere.

Simmonds - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Couturier - Read
Raffl - Vinny - Briere
Rinaldo - Bellemare - Akeson/VDV

Problem is there is not enough depth. If Vinny played with Read and Simmonds I bet that line would be pretty damn good but we cant afford to take Read away from Couts. Vinny belongs at 2C with 2nd line wingers. Not at the 3C with borderline NHL players.

Pace of play and structure of systems were already creeping beyond his abilities before he arrived in Philadelphia.

I disagree. He was always a 60-70 pt player other than 2 seasons. He was on pace for that in the lockout year and hes on pace for that now.

I really liked boosh and thought he was a solid tender, but I really think Mase is generally more talented.. As Bill said, lateral movement isn't even comparable nor is his glove... Mase uses it very well and not just for big roundhouse saves but for other more routine plays.

Mason vs. Boucher is actually a discussion? Mason is far away the more talented netminder. Not even close.

while they're careers overlapped, boucher is from the previous generation, so for me it's a little bit of apples and oranges. they were taught and played differently. i think mason is the more gifted athlete who uses his size to his advantage. i agree with bill that his glove, stick, and lateral mobility are all better than boosh's were.
