Look I'm sorry for venting back to you but I have no pity or remorse for grinder who feels the need to mock gunner or anyone who agrees with or appreciates what he writes, nor do I like his constant pot shots at people he thinks are geeks or nerds in dawn near every article. Now I know someone will say I should just ignore him but since hardly none else will call hi out I felt the need to call him what he is, an idiot with personal issues against anyone who thinks differently than himself who feels the need to bring up his disdain for anyone who enjoys the analytical reviews of the game.

well stated! though I have never seen (could be wrong) grinder take a shot directly at an individual on this blog. thats like oneata penguin stuff. He has the right to argue against the analytical side of the game. I am partially in that camp... I have no idea why it bothered me so much but everyone here comes to debate the pens and hockey. Most avoid personal attacks though there are some out there that get worked up by others opinions and get personal (looking at you MagicMike) oh well... moving on.

meh, Still think the best use for advanced stats is drafting a fantasy team. If you're into it great, but I still think it just backs up what general observations can prove. Besides, there is not one stat that can predict an outcome like gm 6 in 09 vs Philly. Pens down, Talbot picks a fight and the momentum changes. Those moments make great games because they are completely unpredictable.

No, you can

Talbot has a Fightwick that game of 57.9, mainly due to the timing of the fight and the subsequent boost the team got after. His Fightwick score would have been higher had he won the fight. By comparison Carcillo has a Fightwick score of only 29.9, mostly due to the fact he won the fight, has he lost his Fightwick would have been under 10

The Pens as a team had a Momentsi of 110.5 - Due to the rallying effect the Talbot fight had on the team and the subsequent comeback

Honestly I know nothing about him outside his stats page and bio. What do you like about him other than age and pay?
- ImScore71

From what I've seen, which is pretty limited mind you, he seems like a faster version of Bennett. Maybe not ever going to be an elite sniper but good speed and good hands. Nino N is prob a good comparison.

I completely disregarded the cap though. My bad. That would cripple their cap space. Would need to be something more like Dumo +

I think it's fair to say without stats that sid and geno and others are enjoying themselves a little more now that they have more reliable depth and teammates. I just hope they can continue to do so when the pressure of the playoffs come.

Still concerned a little bit with how the team will react to adversity when the going gets tough....always have to worry about that with this team. The jets game was a good example of that...but of course Im not complaining right now.

if our team is healthy, and by team i mean crosby malkin letang and MAF, no reason they cant get to the finals. then again, the same held through the past few years as well.

despite the argument by our blogger about stars being stars, I am a bit concenred about the team being in the lead. shouldnt that have disappeared after the coaching change and the depth upgrade?

So... what I took from that graph is that ONLY Colorado has faster transitions overall versus Pitt.

And, Buffalo... so much sadface for them.

That about it?

And CO is in 6th place in their division with only 4 wins, so whats the usefulness of that stat?

Wbs toed 2-2 at end of 2nd. Megna and chorney have goals... I think that put megna as scoring leader for baby pens.. seems to be clicking on a line with Bennett..

I appreciate the updates. Wish I could catch a few WBS games. If only Megna had hands he'd be a really nice 3rd liner.

On a weekly basis you take a subtle shots at Ryan and his style. Not to mention the time you told me "I offer absolutely nothing to this board".....completely unprovoked. Charm...not so much. Snark and condescension.....um yes.

If your wisdom lead you to conclude that Dan Bylsma was a great coach and Simone Despres is not an NHL player (two of your points), I think we'll need to debate the word wise too.

Just goes to show you how good of a player Bennett is, and how mediocre the AHL is. Add one legit NHL player to a line and that line starts racking up points.

Malkin needs a setup guy. I think Bennett is going to be perfect.

Seems like he's barely spent any time with Malkin.

I think, and maybe I'm just speaking for myself, that people find it interesting but that it is almost like the pens have a blogger who specializes in analytics 1st, the pens second. feels like a gyp sometimes. this blog perfect example... couple sentences on the game, majority of blog on an analytics conference. Now before RW points it out, I aint gonna make too much of stick about it usually cause I sure as poop aint interested in utilizing my own time to offer people an alternative. the I dont like so I shouldnt read it would essentially push pens fans off hockeybuzz.

Bingo!

Just dont understand how anyone would think he doesn't deserve the first crack on Geno's line. As if somehow he hasnt earned it but Comeau has.

I really have no idea where Bennett ends up. I just know that Malkin would benefit from the playmaking ability.

HCMJ had a lot of nice things to say about Comeau the other day:

“He’s a big-body guy [6 feet 1, 202 pounds] who can play a physical game but also can hang on to the puck and play our puck-possession style,” he said.

“If you look at his record and the way he’s played, it’s gone up and down a little bit,” he said. “I thought, ‘Well, if he could get excited about coming in to our team and get on a roll early in the season, he could be a guy who definitely could fit in on our top-six forwards, or be a guy who could bump around [between different lines].’ ”

“Coming into camp, he exceeded my expectations right away,” Johnston said. “He caught my eye with his physical play, how hard he went to the net.

“But more important for me was his puck-possession. I really thought he had the puck a lot in the preseason. He just continued right from there.”
