how about this point of view. in canada we pay the highest ticket prices in the nhl. recently had gold club seats for an oilers game at a face cost of $295.00. with revenue sharing canadian teams support the weak us markets. in florida you can get two tickets two hot dogs 2 beer and free parking with a box of tampons. this is crap !!!! if the league decides to do this how about loosening ticket prices so the average person in canada can go see a game!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

They actually do owe us something. Without fans, they don't have advertisers and the players are making no more money than I make at my day job.
The league - if it wants to - can operate with respect, dignity and integrity. I don't owe anyone anything either, I guess, but I still chose to live my live by those principles.
I think unchecked, fanatical greed is a huge problem. I get that its a business, but if they want make more money, then put out a better product and charge what the market dictates.
Also, I wouldn't bet against the market falling completely out of the advertisement industry as my generation continues to age. Because here is the thing: As someone born in 1982, I am among the first people on earth who have been advertised and marketed to since birth.
I mean, don't tell the NHL or their sponsors, but I sometimes watch three games in a night and if you quizzed me afterwards I couldn't tell you a single board or ice ad. I literally am almost blind to them. - James_Tanner
Advertising works. You think you're blind to it, but it works. The people running these companies aren't stupid. If it wasn't working, they wouldn't do it.
You are permitted to live your life the way you see fit as long as it is within the law of the country in which you reside. The same goes for the NHL. If you don't like the way they operate, you can go ahead and turn away. You are not a slave to them. Nor, however, are they subject to your own personal ideals or morality.
You don't have to be nice to me. I don't have to be nice to you. The NHL doesn't have to respect your personal beliefs, nor should they be expected to.

Everyone who plays in the NHL is a millionaire.
To sell-out to such a level disgusts me. The NHL should be ashamed of itself for even considering it. What's next? The General Motors Heart Trophy?
Look, I understand the need for advertising and corporate sponsorship, but its reached critical mass. There is just too many ads in too many places.
While 99% of the games fans live at or below the poverty level...
No one involved in the NHL needs anymore money. The players are loaded and if a team can't make any cash, it's a tax right off anyways since no-one buys a hockey team as anything more than a hobby or a tax shelter.
Its pure greed and greed disgusts me.
A jersey is a sacred thing and if you sell-out and prostitute yourself for a quick buck, it will be the all-time low point of the NHL.
Here's to the Coyotes' jersey being sponsored. Let's start with the right sleeve being sponsored by a grammar service. The left sleeve can be sponsored by a logic class.
We can have a new game. We can look at the quotes above (disclosure: Tanner is my favorite writer on this site) and try to determine if each quote contains a simple typo, a grammatical error that sickens the stomach, or if the statement has a logical fallacy in it that would send a fifth grader running for cover.
Good luck tonight Coyotes. you'll need it. BTW, that Rieder kid looks really good.
And exactly what do you think people are going to want to do to these jerseys James? Prostitute? Really? You need a hyperbole meter on your columns.

While the typos are kind of embarrassing, to my credit, I don't have an editor. Also, I felt passionately about the topic, so I kind of wrote it quickly and let it fly. What can I say? I appreciate the compliments too.
PS a couple of those were questionable. |

Yeah right. Ovechkin was the only clown that was doing it. Yeah, I'll never buy a hockey jersey again with some whoreish advert on them. You gotta figure, will be a condition from the sponsor that replicas are sold with same garbage on them.
Sickening.

No, not likely. This outrage is pretty ridiculous, though.

Why is it ridiculous? If more people got angry about overt an inappropriate greed, we'd live in a way better society. |

It's not inappropriate. There's absolutely nothing inappropriate about it. Why would you ever begrudge someone doing better for themselves, especially at the expense of NO ONE? |

I personally think it will be done. They just won't be the first ones to do it. As long as they do it in tastful fashion aka not like the euro jerseys. |
