*The Canadiens are still talking to Anaheim, and now Arizona, regarding a possible upgrade on defense.

Right! Unless they're taking Fistric, Stoner, Lovejoy, or Allen why would the Ducks do this? They aren't exactly thin up front and they don't need a goalie long term. And if one of any of those four are going to improve your defense.....yikes! Fowler, Lindholm, Vatanen shouldn't be going anywhere. So what, they're sending Beauchemin? He's the Ducks' kind of defenseman. I know he's a UFA, but he's a family man now who has children here.

Now Arizona? That makes more sense. They need some scoring and are loaded with defensemen.

I think James Mirtle had a really good post, and it referenced an old Tyler Dellow post the other day talking about how Gardiner isn't that bad, and that one of the reasons is that he can be playing well and driving possession the entire game, and have one glaring mistake that sticks out in people's mind. Saw Him Bad so to speak. Gilbert was another one of these players, and Jeff Petry was and still is to a certain point.

I like Gardiner, but as an Oilers fan i would prefer Kadri out of the Leafs. From what i hear Carlyle doesn't like or trust him as much as others like Bozak. That said i doubt the Leafs front office would give up on him, especially with Randy's future kind of in limbo right now.

If Kadri were available i am not sure what it would take from Edmonton, i am sure leafs fans will say its more than we are willing to give up

Jake would benefit from getting outta Toronto and being reunited with Eakins.
Hes not terrible, he has a lot of upside and speed..watch some games..sure he makes mistakes here n there but he would definitely be an upgrade to your team.
No doubt about it.. and I think if there was a trade, it would be more than just Gardiner leaving.. ..If this is true (and I am not holding my breath)then it would be a good thing for both teams..

- nascarguy

nobody would benefit from being reunited with Eakins. We've had enough Marlies on our team.

This is a stupid comment lol. Terrible? Terrible is Aki berg bud. You would look good with a gardiner on your back end. As for getting a perron in the deal as a leaf fan i would love that.
- kiddels2

If you put aside the speed of the game today (which Gardiner is obviously better equipped for), and looked at it from a pure "keep the puck out" perspective, I'd take Berg in a heartbeat. He may have been slow and clumsy, but at least he TRIED to play defence.

That's the problem (in my humble opinion) with advanced statistics. Advanced statistics say Jake Gardiner is the best dman on the Leafs. (might be true?). However, it also implies that Gardiner is a good dman that can be trusted. From watching the games (I'm not sure if you get the chance) that simply isn't true. From TSN's point of view the CORSI and the like is a way to statistically point flaws in Leafs players.

Last year (when they were doing OK) Leafs players had bad CORSI ratings, and thus, TSN pointed out it will eventually lead to their demise (correctly). Earlier this year, when Gardiner, Kadri and Lupul were near the top of the league in CORSI ratings, they did a segment on how those players are making a mockery of advanced stats. In a way that, yes, the statistical figures show they are driving games, but, we all know they are poop.

I wouldn't mind if people stuck to a single narrative about CORSI and the like. However, it changes to suit their arguments. For example, you never hear a Sens fan talk about CORSI anymore. They are getting outshot and winning (they still count as wins). Last year, you couldn't talk to a Sens fan without them showing you a graph or stat.

Plus, I imagine with our lack of depth at centre (especially top 6) the Leafs asking price would be higher than the Oilers would be willing to match. If we traded Kadri we'd end up like last year when we went through a patch of games with this as our centre lineup:

JVR (Yes JVR the winger)
McClement (Yes Jay McClement as our#2 centre)
Smith (career AHL'er)
Smithson (career poop player)

Oilers would do well to talk more to the Caps than they would to talk to the leafs about Gardiner.
