So would anyone be against trading Akeson to the rebuilding Sabres for Grigerenko?

I think Schenn deserves another shot. An extended look on that line.
- GOA88

Well, that would be fine too, except that Berube seems to want to keep him on other lines. So it's not really an option. But I think people on here would be okay with that.

Rock on hooligans, out for end of rotation shift. Good night and good hockey.

Because they are desperate for a proven NHL caliber player like Akeson. He scored 2 goals in the playoffs!!!!

It didn't seem to be much of an issue when he played against the speedy Rangers last season. It seems like sometimes people just make (dubious) excuses to justify why he's been discounted. His D isn't as bad as many think, he battles, and his skating is average, not well below average as some would have you think...he may not be a speedster, but he pivots/turns well and doesn't seem to get left behind the play all that often.
- exlund

Here is the discrepancy. He is capable of playing the way he played against the Rangers. He showed that in a playoff setting. That's not the problem. The problem is that he simply hasn't played to that level this year. He has not battled, he has not skated well enough, and has not competed well enough. If he raises his game, and he gets a chance tonight, he might see more icetime. Hell if he comes out playing well tonight, he might see a shift or two with Giroux. I hope he sees some second unit PP time.

From what I've been reading on this forum today sounds like a lot of people think Akeson is the 2nd coming of Briere. Give it a rest. The kid isnt that good. He had a couple nice plays in the playoffs. Thats it.
- GOA88

nobody thinks that. nobody. what his supporters are saying is that he's shown ability to produce at every level - and would like him to be given more of an opportunity to show that this season. we all agree he needs to be better overall, but his leash is ridiculously short. i, personally, don't like how he's being handled.

and he did more than "have a couple nice plays in the playoffs". he was very good throughout the series. i hope he finds a way to earn himself a better chance this season because it would benefit the flyers.

I was joking. By the way some people are defending Akeson you think he would have that kind of value. Maybe just a change of scenery. Someone before had said Akeson will leave the organization only to go on and make the Flyers regret letting him go. So I thought he might have that value.

I don't disagree.

Mostly, it's me trying to find the one thing that guys who have been in the lineup ahead of Akeson (like VdV and Jones) have that Akeson doesn't have and the one factor seems to be foot speed.

- johndewar

And size. But mostly it's about puck pressure, and forechecking.

Why? That line did well in possession against Edmonton.

In contrast BSchenn and Vinny were together for just over two minutes and somehow allowed 7 shot attempts.

Maybe if BUffalo threw in a first rounder or three.

Yeah, it's pretty obvious Berube values size, physicality and skating over skill.

Culture Change'd...

- exlund

If the skill can't produce enough to offset the lack of those other qualities, then it won't stay in the lineup. I think he's actually prefer size, physicality, skating, and skill over just skill.

BUT. completely negates any offense from happening too. Umberger-Couts-Read has been fine and they are doing well defensively. I'd rather just keep it that way. The Flyers need Vinny and Simmonds scoring regularly or at least creating chances.
