But... But.. Its a team game. What about the other 5 players on the ice?

The key word in my post is contributed to, as in not solely responsible.

Voracek is, by all accounts, in excellent shape. So my lines for tonight would be:

Simmonds-Giroux-Voracek
Read-VLC-Voracek
Schenn-Couturier-Voracek
Umberger-Bellemare-Akeson (gotta give Jake a little rest)

Velveeta and Rinaldo can be used to open bench doors and make sure all the water bottles are filled.

Thank you....and don't forget to tip you waitresses and bartenders

Who's ready to give up on Umberger?? Has he lost it or what?!!
- GOA88

No where near ready to give up on him. But he needs to contribute more offensively.

He has 4 pts in 5 games and he looks much better than last season.
- GOA88

true. i will say he hasnt looked awful so far this year.

however, over the long haul, i like a scenario which involves more vinny at the expense of couturier.

I scored a hatrick as a defenseman and after the game I was demoted to the second pairing.

Vinny has to be the 2C. He is the 2nd best offensive center we have and the only one that will produce. Couts just isnt getting it done
- GOA88

Coots gets buried with defensive responsibilities partially because Vinny is so bad on that side of the puck.

Hasn't looked especially great, either. He's putting up points and had jump in the Oilers game, but he would be better served by different line mates.

That wont happen. Vinny just needs to play with scoring wingers. Not put on a line with Umberger and Akeson like some others are thinking. If you want Vinny to score like we pay him to do.... you dont throw him on a line with anchors.

How has Read been this season? A Ghost
- GOA88

When you start 75% or so of your shifts in the D zone, it's hard to generate any offense, but I will agree he's not playing with the same confidence that he had last season. He needs to get to the greasy areas on the ice, get a few bounces go his way, and he'll be fine. Honestly, I'm not worried about his play just yet.

Same goes for Couts, btw. He has actually generated a few chances for himself and others, but is relied on too heavily for his defensive game.

Lecavalier hasn't been bad defensively to this point this season. He has shown a concerted effort to improve that area, as he has ben asked to do. We'll see how it goes the rest of the season. Small sample size to this point.

If Akeson makes one bad play, Berube will bench him. By the third period he'll be skating in a Panthers jersey.

Trouble is, Vinny has been something of an anchor himself during his time as a Flyer

Sure. Couts is relied on heavily for defense but when he is in the offensive zone. Does he produce enough?? The answer is no. He is not ready for scoring line minutes.

It does make it harder. But was it any different last year for Read or Couturier?

If he got Vinny's ES minutes and zone starts he'd score just as much, if not more.
