One thing to notice is that the forwards are maintaining much better gap control especially in the neutral zone. Far better than I've seen this year. Very valuable point, getting two would be a great boost.

I also noticed the spacing was good tonight. The team plays the right system and they have a chance to be very good with this talent. The whole team played great. Loved the Lee, Nelson, Strome line. Johnson was very good as well. Great win

Martin under 7 mins, Boulton under 5, kid line over 18 mins. This is how it should be in close games. Martin and Boulton maybe had 1-2 shifts in third at most. Play the talent, not the filler.

If capuano can get this kind of play out of his team I wouldn't mind him. But he doesn't. I'm in such a good mood, but I can't even get crazy excited because I know a huge capuano stinker could be on the horizon.

Cappy was a professional coach tonight. He needs to remember this game.

The weird thing about this team is that it always seems to play well defensively against the teams that are good at defense, like Boston, NJ, LA, Detroit, etc.....it's like they're trying to impress them, or something. What will really impress me is if their game in Arizona (or the next one against Pittsburgh) doesn't deteriorate into pond hockey. Another 15-20 games in a row like this one, and I'll start to believe...

I didnt watch the game(first game I've missed in yrs I think?) bcs of work but from what I see as far as ice time and lines it makes sense. Like I said yesterday if he makes line ups somewhere even close to what any of us had up (just common sense line ups) and doesnt give cizikas and Martin twelve mins a night its amazing what can happen. Im not saying this bcs we are so facking smart im saying it bcs its common sense any chimp could draw a sensible line up with the depth this team has. Team has the talent he just has to make sensible decisions with it. I just dont understand why he cant do that instead of giving up six points doing whats so obviously wrong to the rest of the world? Hopefully he continues to do things intelligently though i wont hold my breath.

I agree. They were good in both ends of the ice, good on special teams and great in goal. Most importantly, they were good behind the bench. Sensible line combos, appropriate ice time for the lines and players, and no doubt, a discernable system to cut LA down in the neutral zone that was employed by everyone. The team that played the Kings last night is a no-doubt playoff team.

I too, could not watch the game because of work, but it truly is astounding how they can no show against Colorado and then beat both the Ducks and Kings on consecutive nights. AND they kept their GA down?! WTF?! How does this happen?

Best game of the year. Lee-Strome-Nelson were great. They were the best line imo last night. They actually looked strong defensively for the first time in forever, and Johnson was really good. Lets get the win in Arizona and 3-2 on the road trip!

That was a good hockey game. That was the best game the Islanders played this year. Considering they played the night before and were playing against the Stanley cup champs. They looked like a well prepared team. Hopefully Cappy is over his love affair with the 4th line. The 4th line received appropriate ice time last night. I think Hickey is an underrated player. He does the small things that don't get noticed. He has good hockey sense. It's nice to see the goalies have three good games in the row.

Not that it was a big deal but I did kind of laugh when, after the shift that saw Boychuk take that hit from Clifford and Tavares get bowled over, Cappy through Martin out there with Johnny and Okposo. Seemed like a bit of an overreaction.

Unrelated side note: Cizikas had a few god awful plays.

Cizikas had one of his worst games but everyone else was solid. Was nice not to see the fourth line playing too much after the first period and the PK looked the best it has in two years.

Stretch of games doesn't get any easier -

@ ARI
vs. COL
@ FLA
@ TBL
vs. TBL
@ PIT
vs. PIT
vs. PHI
vs. WSH
@ WSH
vs. NJD

3 home and homes during this month against 3 very good teams. Can't take games off or have Cappy play experiments with the teams lines.

Complete game by the Islanders last night. Great to see the fourth sit most of the third period and the lines go back to normal. He needs to leave this the way it is and do exactly what he did last night in Arizona and for the future.

I Am sick of the Buffalo fans by the way

difficult games in bold. any other of the teams could win but those 4 games will be the ones that are the most difficult. How we play against the rest of the teams there will also be huge, that's 5 divisional games in a row

I know we're not likely to win 5 in a row, but the next three games are winnable. If we beat ARI, COL, and FLA it gives us a little wiggle room through the rest of the month.
