still is good for the rivalry for voracek to take that next step he has always had in him and become your malkin type 1A player to crosby/giroux.

now if only the pens had a simmonds

That guy from the Preds is pretty good around the crease.
Close as you guys get to Wayne.

i REALLY like what hornqvist brings.

i actually think he has a better overall, 200 foot game.

but few guys in this league are matching simmonds tenacity and ability to score within 10 feet of the cage.

He made his NHL debut on a line with Giroux and Voracek and scored on his first shift.

At any rate, unless things change at tomorrow's morning skate, looks like Jones went from waivers and impending AHL re-assignment to being back on the 4th line and in the lineup. That would make Akeson a healthy scratch again.

No question: He is deep in the doghouse. It's gotten to the point where the club ought to just waive him (there is a slight risk he'd be claimed) and send him to the AHL.

Bill mentioned early in the thread that Akeson was definitely deep in the dog house.

Did he say what Akeson actually did to get deep in the dog house?

I had a feeling Beroob would slot VDV there. Kind of sucks.
He won't play there the whole game, you could bet the house on that.

- Marc D

i will take that bet

incredible

i'd put read there...see if you can get him going. but beroobee doesn't want to mess up lines 2 and 3, you know, because they're playing so well. promoting VdV to the top line is (frank)ing stupid.

They waived Jones because they were more confident that he would clear. I think it says a lot about Akeson and how he's played and practiced, that even though they have a scoring line spot open, they decided to play Vandevelde there and put Jones in the lineup, and still scratch Akeson.

I think Jason Akeson gets traded unless someone in the top six gets hurt and by some miracle plays himself into a full time spot.

He somehow became overvalued by one playoff round that we lost in. I honestly wish we still had Downie on Couturier and Read's line and Hartnell on Giroux and Voracek's line.

Come score goals for me, my son

I won't even lie: I miss the days of 46-goal Jeff Carter, 47-goal Simon Gagne and 50-goal John LeClair as much as I miss anything in Flyers history

Man, I wish we had one of those kind of guys right now

- AllInForFlyers

No question. I'm with you. This team has taken major steps back.

Vandevelde has basically scored one goal that impressed Berube. Anything else he likes, I just don't see it. Vandevelde just might collect some points playing with G and Jake but most players should by playing with talents like that.

Wayne Simmonds by far is my favourite player on the team. He brings certain intangibles to this team that makes him important. I've often started many debates of who is better, Simmonds or Bobby Ryan, Simmonds or JvR. I believe Simmonds is often inconsistent and doesn't have the raw skill or skating Ryan or JvR does. The intangibles Simmonds has are the drive to work harder most of his teammates and the willingness to get his nose dirty to win, while still continuing to go, go, go. Something I've probably only seen in Jason Smith in recent years.

This example of Wayne Simmonds is why I wanted Steve Ott last summer. Steve Downie can agitate. Maxime Lapierre can also agitate. Zac Rinaldo can play the role too. You can find an agitator anywhere but there is something special about Ott within his role, just like there is something special about Simmonds. Certain Intangibles.

Honestly, if Umberger for Ott was a remote possiblity, I would do it.
