Are the forwards having trouble scoring? If they are -- and it was said earlier -- they might as well try to get Akeson down there and playing. If he's not in the lineup with Raffl out, you might as well try to get him down and playing somewhere he could help

Scoring really isn't a problem. Their situational play isn't very good. The GWG in the third period was a SHG that started with a mis-play by Ghost.

Well, that's...an opinion...an interesting one...yeah.

How he got there, God only knows, but Jim Rutherford, MAF and the Pens should send him a bouquet for being onside with that one

i think fleury is an awesome dude and realistically, the numbers arent SO out of whack once you look at them in context. and you can debate whether spending 7, 8 mil per year on a goalie is fiscally sound, i guess. sure.

im willing to look at the extension with an open mind, but fleury better than rask? rinne? lundqvist?

i cant even begin to fathom how someone writes that in good faith.

Yeah. When things break down, they really begin running around and chasing the puck.

I tease Fleury because it needs to be done, but I have no issue with anyone saying "he's damn good in the regular season and while he has melted down in the playoffs before, I'm pleased with how he was last year, think he's got another Cup in him, and I think they were right to stick with him."

He could've left it there and I might not have necessarily agreed with every word, but I could honestly say I'd buy the premise.

But how in the (frank) does a guy come up with "I'd take Fleury over Rask, Rinne, Lundqvust and I'd compare him with Quick, though yeah, I'd take Quick?"

We don't know what would've happened, but I'd put a paycheck on this statement: "Since the Pens' last Cup, if they would've had Henrik Lundqvist or Rask, I bet they would have at least one more Cup."

Again: There's no way to know for sure. That's just my opinion.

But which of those statements do you, as a Pens fan, find more believable?

There's going to be growing pains. They're missing Manning and Alt, too.

what you initially said, sums up largely how i feel about it. however, i still think there was no need to do it now. i do feel confident that there at least is the possibility for the team to win with him, and that he has the ability to turn the mental page, especially with a new scheme in front of him. (still, no need to sign him until june AFTER you see him in another post season)

all that being said. it is an insult to journalism lump him in with those other goalies mentioned

In what world is 8 games a fair shake?

EDIT: Glad that after only 8 games and practice, he's been determined to be a replacement player. If 8 games is a fair shake I wonder how many players throughout sports that were stars would never have made it.

- Flyers1218

In what world isn't 8 games a fair shake? Are you telling me you can't see how a player is playing in 8 games.

There has been no final determination made as to what kind of player Akeson is, only how he has played this season to this point. Which hasn't been very good

Exactly -- now, granted, Steve Mason's not as accomplished as Fleury, so I'm not comparing those two. I can only go by what the Flyers have, and I do believe in Steve Mason as the starting goalie for the Flyers. I absolutely do.

That being said, if I could have Lundqvist (though the $11 million just makes that effing impossible), Rask, Rinne or Quick, yeah, I'd do that. I would not blink. I would not hesitate.

Sometimes, some other guys are better than your guy. It doesn't mean you don't like your guy. It means that sometimes, the other guy is better and it's best for all involved that you don't try to tell anybody otherwise.

here is our lifelong answer to the top lw, buuut we have to wait for the 2016 draft, this guy scored 146 points in 33 games, may be better then macdavid or eichel when the time comes, he lost a year or he would have been in the 2015 draft

Come score goals for me, my son

I won't even lie: I miss the days of 46-goal Jeff Carter, 47-goal Simon Gagne and 50-goal John LeClair as much as I miss anything in Flyers history

Man, I wish we had one of those kind of guys right now

i dont think its an insult to fleury to say that lundqvist or rask are better. its just reality. it doesnt take away anything from him. he is all of the good things you mentioned. but spewing such garbage is nonsense.

is henriks deal 11 million in actual dollars, or is that his cap hit too? i know they made it more difficult to circumvent with phantom years at the end to reduce the hit.

to be fair, there really is a league wide lack of guys potting high 40s and into the 50s now. sure youll get maybe your stamkos and OV, and maybe corey perry.

but its really been a lack of it. 35 goals is a solid scorers season now adays.

I hear you, man -- I hear you.

To me, the league's better when there's maybe...8-12 40-goal guys, every season, plus a couple of 50-goal guys

I like to see a bit more scoring out of superstar players. That's just me

i totally agree. i am a skill/finesse fan. defenders/goalies are better than in years past. the overall talent level in the league seems to have grown, making it harder for a select few to dominate.

however, i do think there is a good number of guys in this league that have the talent to pot 40 plus every season.

but for what its worth, its not a slight against your team to not have someone potting 48 these days. [/img]

question for you.

do you think jake remains hot enough to lead the flyers in points at the seasons end?

i realize it is tricky with them being on the same line, and thus having a hand in most of each others points, but if you had to pick one to finish with more this year, who do you have?

Oh -- that is an interesting question. Very interesting

See, here's the thing about Giroux. When he gets hot, points just start coming in bunches. Just bunches, because he quarterbacks the PP, and he's just so damn good at it, he gets points from that that Voracek might not have a hand in

But what makes your question interesting is Voracek's going off at ES like only a few guys can in this sport. Collecting points like he is at ES is effing hard to do, but if you can, you can put up staggering point totals if you simply do a good job on the PP

Man. If Voracek does 82 games like he is now...woof. It honestly could be like a 40/60/100, when it's all said and done, and if he does that, he might just get Giroux

yeah. i think voracek has a very good season. but i think the goal scoring touch may end up fading. if i had to guess at this moment in time, id think jake finishes with 30 something goals, and around 50 assists.

i still think ultimately giroux flirts with high 90s again, due to the reasons youve said. the flyers have issues, but long term this season, scoring will not be one of them. nor will PP1. and that means giroux will be picking them up in bunches. and plus, giroux will likely assist on the vast majority of jakes even strength goals as well haha

Bill mentioned early in the thread that Akeson was definitely deep in the dog house.

Did he say what Akeson actually did to get deep in the dog house?

I had a feeling Beroob would slot VDV there. Kind of sucks.
He won't play there the whole game, you could bet the house on that.

still is good for the rivalry for voracek to take that next step he has always had in him and become your malkin type 1A player to crosby/giroux.

now if only the pens had a simmonds

Right now teams are sliding their PK coverage to close down Giroux, which leaves a lot of room for Jake to come off the half boards and into the slot and get a high quality shot. That may change if Jake stays hot.
