Yeah. I counted about 64 defensemen that were at least tied for our best defender last year.
Even though Schultz has improved and we added Fayne, we actually haven't added a guy that's better than imo our best defender (Petry) so I think it's around 50-60 for sure. - Morris

Glad you guys are speaking up about the caliber of defensemen Eakins has to use rather than throwing him into the fire. Not saying he's the guy to take them to the finals, but this is easily the worst blueline in the NHL. Buffalo has better D men.

Too be fair, the ref was doing spin-o-ramas in the corner and distracted the Oiler defender. |

Step price for a average goalie that sucks come playoffs recent years. Bad signing no reason to do it now wait till after the playoffs to see how he preforms |

A good goaltender Would do alot for them. They Should almost look at trading one those young guns for a good young goaltender and a solid defensemen. All though even with those assets will be hard to pry a good goaltender from anyone. - bmoney411
I'll be last guy to say a trade isn't necessary, but can it be something better than our 1st for Michael neurvirth or whomever the (frank)? |

It is a bit strange, but who knows what the market will look like by then. Sometimes better to go with the Devil you know. |

To be fair- Renney should never had been fired in the first place- it was just due to the process- he should have been hired last... and also- you dont hire a rookie (frank)ing coach for a team that has little winning vet presence- and youth that dont know how to win at an NHL level... - saskoil21
Totally agree here. Your biggest problem stems from the top on down IMO. What is needed in Edm is a culture change within the entire organization. Look at all the boneheaded moves made by Lowe in his tenure.
Dustin Penner, Chris Pronger, Steve Tambellini, MacT, Ryan Smyth, Mike Comrie for Corey Perry deal to name a few.
I know hindsight is 20/20 but at some point one needs to have a general insight upon talent levels and player values. Lowe was a pretty good defenseman in his day, I 'll give him that. |

MacT hired Eakins then signed all his kids long-term b4 they proved themselves. Bad decisions and NO bold moves, they need someone who can predict the future for a change |

First, i love the "intangibles" (locker room guy, possibly best athlete at the position) that MAF brings, but why sign him now. Make him prove himself consistent over the long hull. Hopefully he gets better as he ages like the Haseks and the Marty's of the world. (Both better in their 30s than their 20s IMO)
Also, the Oilers don't need to do much other than get a coach to gameplan to their strengths. The coaching can take that elite level offensive talent they have and help it mature into a well "oiled" machine. (See what I did there) |
