I actually beleive that every other team has a player that would be our best defender. Most have 2. Some even have 3 or 4.

Yeah. I counted about 64 defensemen that were at least tied for our best defender last year.

Even though Schultz has improved and we added Fayne, we actually haven't added a guy that's better than imo our best defender (Petry) so I think it's around 50-60 for sure.

Edmonton has too many small players.

Kessel is better then Hall but other then that everything is just an over exaggeration by a fan who just lost a bad game.

100% the starting point Edmonton has like 10 D that are good in a 3,4 or 5,6 spot but none are top 2.

I think if Jeff Petry was paired with Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Erik Karlsson etc. he would look perfectly fine as a #2 defenseman.

That being said, there is an underratedly huge gap between a #2 and a #1 dman.

Oh absolutely. Not taking anything away from Roman Josi or Jonas Brodin but would Petry or eventually Marincin be all that serious a downgrade riding shotgun to Weber or Suter?

The Elite defenders can take a solid #3 and make them good on the 1st pair. Also, when a 1st pair plays 30 minutes a night the 2nd a 3rd pairs can be more effective splitting the table scraps.

My point is that if we had a top 10 Defenseman ( excluding PK or Karrllssonn) that would be enough to fix our D. The flip side to that is if we had a Josi or Brodin we would be minimally improved, if at all, and lastly if Marincin, Petry or Fayne were paired with an Elite Defender on another team they probably wouldn't look too out of place.

In summary, our D still sucks at the moment.

Kinda hard to blame the coach IMO. How many coaches have gone through Edmonton and couldn't turn that team around? Time to replace the tools not the mechanic.

Theyre working on it. The roster has changed so much since the end of the 2013 season. It's tough when you have so many core pieces that are still young and under developed.
