We are now doomed.

- FlyersGrace

Doomed in the sense of missing the playoffs and picking between 10-15, yes, yes we are.

I don't disagree. Like I said I doubt it lasts long anyway.

The bias toward certain kind of players is evident. I can live with that.

Its his trend of poorly managing the youth that has me tickling for someone new. I haven't enjoyed the management of Akeson, Guss, Couturier, Brayden Schenn and Ghost thus far.

His time is ticking anyway, I don't believe anyone thinks he is a real viable long term candidate for the job.

I don't believe he's an NHL caliber player. He's a call up who can play on the 4th line for short stretches. There is no reason for him to be getting anywhere close to the top line.
- PhillySportsGuy

He's a capable role player in this league. The Flyers don't exactly have a glutton of LW's to choose from. He's simply trying to keep some balance in the lineup. That and injuries are the reasons.

I hope they try 10-28-93 again before they through VDV on the top line.
- NickTheKid87

I wouldn't mind seeing Schenn or PEB on the top line. I would actually prefer PEB as I think his game is fairly similar to Raffls

Akeson isn't a 4th liner. They play 3 4th liners though. VDV on the top line, Umberger on the 2nd line and Rinaldo on the 4th line.
- PhillySportsGuy

You're right. Right now he is a "no liner" and a healthy scratch.

If he really wanted to balance the lineup, he would have split up Jake and G. Putting VDV on the top line is just Berube rewarding a player who works hard and does what Berube tells him to. This has nothing to do with maximizing the lineup.
- PhillySportsGuy

I disagree. It's about balance. And he's right. Giroux and Voracek are going to do their thing regardless of who is on the LW. He's trying to get more out of the other lines, so he's leaving a good mix on those lines from what is available. Rather then load up the top line, that is already going to be a good line.

He's been playing the crap out of Couturier and Schenn with lots of icetime. How exactly have they mismanaged Gostisbehere? Because they recalled him for a couple of NHL games?

During the lock out half season, Ovechkin had 32 goals, Stamkos had 29. Ovechkin had 220 SOG, Stamkos had 157.

Ovechkin needed 63 more shots to score 3 more goals. Stamkos had St Louis, but Ovechkin had Backstrom, who is an elite playmaker & PPG player over 6+NHL seasons

- Jsaquella

I don't care about the shots, only the results. Right now St Louis is a Hall of Famer, Backstrom isn't.

Berube on putting CVV on Giroux line: "That line needs a simple player. He goes into the corners, he's been physical and he skates well."

- PhillySportsGuy

oh for god's sake of course he's putting vdv up there

PEB should be 1LW and Laughton should be called up to play 4C while Raffl is hurt.

OK, the results are:

Ovechkin had 3 more goals than Stamkos, playing with Backstrom, who had 3 fewer assists than St Louis in the lockout short season.

But Stamkos had a higher shooting percentage, shooting 18.5% vs Ovechkin's 14.5%, which means Stamkos was far more effective, despite having a similarly capable set up guy riding shot gun.

So based on any result, saying Ovechkin is far better than Stamkos is, in the very least, wrong and literally nonsense.
