Berube on putting CVV on Giroux line: "That line needs a simple player. He goes into the corners, he's been physical and he skates well."

- PhillySportsGuy

PEB should be 1LW and Laughton should be called up to play 4C while Raffl is hurt.

Lets put Rinaldo on that line. I am sure that will prevent people from taunting Giroux about his assgrab and taking runs at him and hacking his wrists all game long.

I don't think VDV has been nearly as bad as everyone is making it seem. He plays a simple game. He's quick, tenacious, forchecks hard, and solid enough defensively. He's not going to put up points but if anyone is expecting him to they're just being unrealistic. It's not ideal by a long shot but I think he could work well enough on that line.
- JonnyHammerstix

Offensively, this team needs some balance. They're being carried by the Giroux line offensively. So players like Schenn or Simmonds need to be on other lines to get some offensive production out of those lines, rather then stacking the top line.

I would try and get Read going, giving him a chance to play with Giroux and Voracek would give him a huge boost.

That's what I would do too but they seem intent on keeping PEB at center and Laughton in the minors.

Well, it's a shame OV never had a great distributor of the puck to play with.

Does Backstrom count? He was the first to 500 pts. from the 2006 draft class...

Well if we draft Connor McDavid or Jack Eichel they'll need two seasons in jr/college and then at least one season in the AHL because no player has ever been hurt getting time in the A and then it will be several seasons before they can really contribute so I think 2019 is a reach there.

You haven't been paying attention to prospect development logic on these threads have you? C'mon, get in the game...

VDV from career minor leaguer, to top line winger.

It would take season ending injuries to Giroux and Voracek to get anywhere near the top 2

How low do we have to get to win the lottery and draft number 1?

I don't believe he's an NHL caliber player. He's a call up who can play on the 4th line for short stretches. There is no reason for him to be getting anywhere close to the top line.

No, I've been hearing all off season that the fix is in for Ed's team. All they have to do is tank enough to do is get low enough to make it plausible and the number 1 pick comes to Philadelphia.

Say what you will about needing a simple player up there but its a slap in the face imo to guys like bSchenn and company.

How many NHL coaches, even with Raffl going down would play VDV on the top line? Or play him at all?

This isn't the good kind of insanity. I don't even care if he does well up there. He is nothing close to a long term solution and the ice time/opportunity should go to better players.
