You know what is sad? The Rangers have 57 defensemen hurt, and he still can barely get on the ice. I agree, no use crying over spilt milk, but we are not even engaging in hindsight here. Everyone knew that pick was a dumb pick at the time it was made. Don't really remember the Jessiman pick, and whether there was the same amount of negativity at the time the pick was made.

O yea I am not saying I am glad they took McIlrath, just that it is over and done with. The Rangers have had plenty of busts over the years. They always have room for another one. But the Rangers always find a way to fill that void. Why it doesn't bug me in the end.

Also another reason why I don't mind the Rangers trading their 1st round pick every year for other assets.

That what just makes me shake my head. Mcilrath played 8:02 of TOI last night. Conor Allen had 13:03. Let that sink in, the undrafted kid got 5 more minutes than 1st rounder. Also Mcilrath spent 9 minutes in the box.

this is exactly right, we were told to have patience with the pick and we all have been patient, but 5 years is enough time to evaluate a pick and it's a dud.

I remember the sentiment when Jessiman was picked and it was actually positive at the time. Mcilrath was instantly negative. Never been so angry.

Don't understand why they have to make drafting so complicated. Always trying to make the surprise pick or be all saavy and drafting for specific needs...JUST TAKE THE BEST RANKED GUY OUT THERE!! It makes no sense to me. First of all, you have NO IDEA what the team need will be when the draft pick is ready 2-3 years later. Second, if you take the top guys out there, you can simply make trades to address needs. You don't waste a 1st round pick on a role player who's good at 1 thing, you take the best dang hockey player available and then figure it out after.

McIlrath isn't effecting this team's future either way, they've got Skjei and have done a great job with later picks to make up for the mistake but no question that's what it was

It's not as much of a worry anymore, scouting has come a long way in accessing draft picks over the past 10 years and we've been fortunate to have a good group, there's something to be said for an organization to be successful and still produce NHL players without top 5 picks

I actually have liked the way the Rangers have played in the last two games, especially given the circumstances. They deserved a better result last night, but sometimes you win some you shouldn't, so I guess it all comes out in the wash.

I think you have to feel good about the way this team is playing considering the circumstances. There just no way to get around the McIlrath topic though. He is frightening.

If he fails to pan out at all - and too early to make that call - he won't be the first one ever on this team or in the NHL to whom it happened. Let's give Taransenko some credit for an unreal move and curb the McIlrath is the scourge of the earth bashing. Granted, he wan't great and needs to stay out of the box, but not ready to just throw in the towel on him just yet.

Exactly what I was saying last night. Rangers are playing good hockey with a depleted line up. It will come around.

If anyone said at the start of the season Stepan, Boyle,McDonagh,Klein,Zuccarelo and Moore, would all be out for varying times to start the season, I doubt most fans would think we would be a game over 500 in the 1st 10 games.

I agree. I guess I went through the last stage of grief and found acceptance.

I also think every Ranger who is in a scoring slump should have to do the in between period interviews. Just set up a big table. Every time a player is on with John or Al, they score.

I just want to reiterate that the Rangers have 57 defensemen out of the lineup, and McIlrath, under those very favorable circumstances to actually get some time, played very little. I just don't see an NHL defensemen in him (or at least a decent one). Hoping I'm wrong, but man, there is not much there to be optimistic about.

I blame Kostka more for that than McIlrath anyway, was that a slide tackle? I'm still questioning that approach in my head

Just the general mood. Seems really down. I actually love the way they are playing right now, minus the finishing.

I think one thing that is depressing me today is Sam got me excited that Nash scored in overtime but he hit the post.

It looked like it was in, plus, he had a second shot later that was stopped but officials missed Elliot's stick in the Nash's skates that should have been a trip.

Where you watching the MSG feed Tom? The view they had looked like it went in live.

Yeah, the way the puck bounced and sound it made you could just see it wasn't in. Also having having seen it HD for the first time helped.
