There should be a channel that has at least two hours a night of Hogan's Heroes.

Interesting, two players are unhappy with the new lights at the Wells Fargo center, saying it's harder to track the puck.

It's not even really Akeson, but the mindset that a guy who is physical or "works" hard or is bigger gets more of a shot than a smaller guy who doesn't have as much of a physical element to his game.

Akeson is just the latest. Gustafsson dealt with the same issues. And maybe they will be guys that never crack a NHL line-up regularly. But give them a shot, by using them in roles they might be good at.

- Jsaquella

Exactly. None of us are saying Akeson is great. But he's capable of providing secondary scoring. That is something they are in desperate need of.

I'm afraid Berube has taken his enforcer mindset into the coaching ranks. In his mind bigger and more physical means better regardless of circumstance.

Size isn't necessarily bad, but you need skilled as well. Ideally you get both.

Looks like Colaiacovo will play tomorrow over Manning.

Colaiacovo should make his Flyers debut tomorrow. On the second PP unit. Just in time for me to have learned how to spell his name.

Guess he earns quickly

It'll be interesting to see how he does here and to see what happens when AMAC and Coby get back.. I really hope he can stay healthy and help us out.

I knew it.

Mason said this at the start of the season and promptly had a terrible outing against the Devils. I forget what goal it was, but the Devils took the lead in the second period on a slapshot from just inside the point. Mason didn't even flinch as it went by him.

I guess he's been skating and staying in game shape.

I hope so, anyway, considering his fragility factor.

I'll be honest, I'm worried about how rusty he is. Hasn't played in any kind of game since April. No preseason, AHL or any other kind of situation except practice and skating with a junior team.

FWIW, here's what I would do re the Flyers forward lines:

First, I'd waive and demote Jones and bring up Laughton, there is no doubt in my mind that he can play in the NHL right now.

1st line: Raffl-Giroux-Voracek
Currently one of the best lines in the league, no reason to mess with success.

2nd line: Bellemare-VLC-Read
Vinnie needs wingers with speed and who are solid defensively. Also Read needs a change to get himself going.

3rd line: Schenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Simmonds and Schenn have shown good chemistry in the past and since neither is strong defensively, Couturier will fill that role. Plus this line has decent size and strength and should be able to cycle well down low.

4th line: Umberger-Laughton-Akeson
Solid line that can take a regular shift and play in most situations. For those concerned about Laughton's ice time. He should get around 9-9.5 minutes at ES and another 1-2 on the PK giving him a total of 10-11.5 per game which is fine, IMO.

When I read that I thought it was an old story reposted but it's not. That was covered in the preseason. Wonder why they're rehashing it now.

You'd think it would be easier on the players who play and practice there as opposed to visiting clubs.

They must be going to ease him in.. keep his minutes low. You're right though.. I think it'll be awhile before he gets in game shape and subsequently injures himself..

Carlo Colaiacovo has played a grand total of 0 games for the Flyers and 31 in the last two years yet he has somehow "earned" PP time. This makes me think that PP isn't something to earn and that Berube just doesn't want to try Akeson on the 2nd PP for one reason or another.

Have we considered the possibility that Akeson lack of use comes down from the GM?

I'm not saying this is true....but it is weird that Akeson was given some trust during the playoffs last year and now this year, is persona non grata.

As Mason stated in the article, he wished they practiced there more often.

Yeah, he really wants to pay more Philly taxes. It's only reason they practice in Vorhees.

That and availability.

Don't they do game day skates at the WFC?

I seem to remember Lavvy having more practices at WFC.

Possibly but I doubt it. The coach has ultimate say on who plays and what not. I think the main reason Akeson hasn't gotten PP time is because Berube wants to use his vets up front and doesn't feel comfortable with any forward on the point aside from Voracek. He'd rather Give Giroux, Simmonds, Lecavalier, Schenn, Couturier, Read and Umberger minutes over Akeson. I don't totall disagree either. I would like to see something like 10-28-17 32-93 on the first unit obviously and 42-14-40 15-24 on the second unit just to see if that works.
