And yet he was -22 or something, no?
You really think he had a good season? But Corsi said so...

- Big_Lightnin

+/- is an awful stat. It's team based. Phil Kessel was +23 his last season in Boston. Chara -33 his last season on Long Island...

So advanced stats shouldn't be used on here. Ok.

If guys like Franson and Phaneuf were as useless as most of you claimed, all the stats would back-it-up. They do not.

- RogerRoeper

Now I know you are arguing for the sake of arguing with me. I don’t think Phaneuf is useless.

Franson may have good corsi but he sucks on the ice. Which makes him an enigma. Judgement reserved for later in the season.

For the record Franson has been here for 3 previous seasons. You can't take 10 games in one season and not look at the rest.

Actually, his corsi was good last season too.

We're talking about the Leafs. Every mistake made is amplified by 100. I still remember how McCabe was the most overpaid, worthless D-Man in the entire NHL while on the Leafs. The criticism goes overboard.

- RogerRoeper

what pairing was he last year? he was a minus 20 man

I agree about McCabe... Was ridiculous.

My issue with Franson s what it's going to cost to keep him long term, especially considering we have better replacements in the system.

He doesn't skate or defend well enough to play 20+ mins a night, but puts up enough PP assists, on a pretty good PP, to justify $4-$5M a ear as Ufa.

No (frank)i way do I want that player at tht price for the next several years. Gardiner nd Rielly are better offensively, Percy is far better defensively right now, and will continue to get better, and all 3 are far superior skaters with higher upside.

He is easily replaceable, especially considering what he will cost going forward.

I hope they move santo to the wing and put holland in the middle

Panik out Leivo in would be cool. Holland still does that fly by way too much for my liking. Stop once in a while ffs.

The next season he led the NHL in +/- in Ottawa...

I used the Chara example because it is the only one I know of where a player went from the worse +/- to the best in 1 season.

And we know why that occurred.

Chara was (frank)ing terrible with the isles. He could barely skate. He was also terrible the the Sens his first couple years. He only really became a premiere dman with Boston actually. Hence why the Sens kept Redden

It's weird being a Leaf fan. Supposedly Franson is useless. No team want him. Yet the "Advanced Stats"" say he's having a very good season.

Franson's Corsi for/60 minutes is the best on Leafs.

Franson: 71.20
Rielly: 68.48
Phaneuf: 63.84
Gardiner: 58.98
Percy: 50.70
Polak: 44.96
Robidas: 35.95

Franson's Corsi against/60 is second best on Leafs:

Gardiner: 41.08
Franson: 52.94
Rielly: 56.09
Percy: 60.17
Robidas: 60.38
Phaneuf: 60.74
Polak: 70.08

- RogerRoeper

Somethings amiss with those numbers my friend. Are you doing those 5v5? The website I check has him fourth on the Leafs defence at a 50.5 CF%. He's trailing Gardiner 52.6, Phaneuf 51.4, and Rielly 51.2. But, considering that he's starting more shifts in the d-zone then the other 3 then his corsi numbers are pretty good.

You know who had a decent game last night? …Panik. He was good on the forecheck with Santo Komarov and Winnik. Did some good work on the PK and finished a few of the better body checks on the night. One game ...

What the... Maybe I missed too much. I taped the game then fast forwarded one notch to catch up to real time

You're claiming Chara wasn't very good in Ottawa, especially the first couple of seasons. this is simply not true. He haden't hit his peak obviously, but he looked very solid.

A LOT of his points came on the PP, and he was nowhere near as good defensively as he has been in Boston. Not even remotely close.

His stats you are looking back on are very inflated by a very good Sens team.

Chara was never he issue for the Leafs as a Sen that he has been as a Bruin.

I liked it. I had it modded so it had all the emulators on it too. I rented games and just copied them to my harddrive. I rmember my folks got me a 100 gift card for Blockbuster(LOL) just for that reason.
