The Leafs have won 3 in a row. I'm not seeing Dion's play as being a problem.

Using your logic, Pacciorety has put up more goals then Kessel has ever had. I was not trying to insult you, trying to make you wake up to a fact that Vancouver of all teams have shown more success than the Leafs in the pas 40 years. And I (frank)ing hate Vancouver.
- habman75

Your comment makes me think you believe Kane is on another level from Kessel. I think that's silly.

And by "Scoring More" I meant overall points BTW.

I hear what you are saying Lums. But the guy has carried baggage for quite a while now. How long does he need to carry it until people realize he is a problem? Honest answer here Lums.
- habman75

does he make too much money sure....no one is arguing that. But take him off this team where does his 20 mins go? The leafs would be worst without him. I think when Lupul comes back its time to trade him for a 3/4 dman. Makes too much money to only play 40-60 games year

Honestly, I stick by what I say; I can neither judge for or against him as captain given the team.

In a vacuum, I'm not his biggest fan. I think that he's paid too much, and sometimes makes boneheaded plays. But the sad thing is, I don't know who on the team would be better at this moment in time (Apart from Komagod )

Does he? Orpik got 5.5 million as a UFA the same day Dion was scheduled to become UFA.

One can easily argue that Kessel is as good as Kane. It's close enough that it'd be impossible to prove wrong. They'd have to switch places for us to be sure and that's not happening.

Let's change direction from our conversation, because I think I'm staying from my original point. I think to much is made of the Captaincy, either from the fanbase or the reporting media. The only duty of a Captain is to be the liaison between the referee and the coach on the bench.

The fact is Kessel puts up slightly more points with less talent. This we know.

Is anyone going to try to tell me Kane is such a better "Overall" player. He's just like Kessel.

Oh Jesus Christ! I'm in no trying to see the Habs as a serious cup contender. I see the holes in the team. They are MASSIVE. What bugs me is seing someone like you, gluck, or Burn, feel the need to protect a team that has shown NOTHING. They have disappointed the fan base over and over again. You diehard fans are THE problem. Stop it FFS!!!

Agreed Gluck, but until diehards like yourself start to not accept the BS, the status quo will remain. Have you seen your team win a cup? I have seen 3 of my own, and I can't be much older than you.
- habman75

So is that the problem with Vancouver, St. Louis, Ottawa, San Jose and so on? Fans need to boycott?

Not sure what game u talking about but tonight it certainly looked like Reimer was the one doing that...

Go Dion Go

- Fruitcakenipple

Weren't Kane and Toews shot-less after 40 minutes? They only had 2 shots a piece.

I don't understand this rant given you responded to a post about how Kane and Kessel are equals. its a team game.

And BTW, I picked the Habs to go to the finals before the season started. their holes aren't massive at all. In the East they are a legit contender.

I freaking love your passion Roger. But you, and you in particular, is what is wrong with the leafs. Absolutely amazing that you don't get it.
- habman75

He has it right, Kessel and Kane are pretty even as players, the only notable difference being Kane has played for a much better team during his career.

Take Guy Lafleur and Marcel Dionne for example, drafted 1-2 in 1971. Marcel outscored Guy by over 400 points, and was equally talented and determined, but he didn't have the fortune of playing with a team full of future all stars, so most people think he wasn't in Lafleur's league, since he wasn't "clutch" enough to win a Stanley Cup.....even though it takes at least 20 players to do that.

There are still some people here who think Dion would have gotten 4 million as a UFA.

The leafs were (frank)ed when they resigned him, they couldn't let him walk and he's their best dman and captain. If he hit the open market he might actually make more then he is now. I like him, like his game most nights. I do think he plays more mins then he should. i just wish he played more like he did when he was in Calgary. He threw a nice hit on I think versteeg tonight to squash that rush. I just wish he played the body more. He did it all the time in Calgary but since in TO whenever he does it he has to fight and I think that's slowly got into his head

Here's the thing, he's playing a far different, far tougher role in Toronto.

Pacioretty scored 2 more than Kessel last year, but had 20 less points.
these Kane vs Kessel arguments are beyond dumb. They both have pretty similar stats, and Kessel doesnt have a Toews,Sharp,Hossa and Keith to line up with on the pp.
Both are pretty one dimensional. gimme toews any day
