I think you are forgetting poopty managment and development team. Add in poopty atmosphere in general. Some of the best fans in the game, but there's nothing that screams, "I REALLLYYY WANT TO PLAY FOR THE EDM OILERSSSSSSS!" Coming from the dressing room. No accountability, no flare or passion. It's a lack of direction and culture. You can argue or state there's a few personnel missing on the ice, sure, but the core is there, and there are teams finding success with less. I'm sick and tired of the constant changing of the players, what really needs to change is the culture in edm.

(frank) all the old edm vets running the show. They don't show any passion,so why should the players.

- munky123

We beat u.

Your conference is a joke. And we'd be right in the thick of things if we played in the east.
Count ur lucky stars u play where u do, cause the habs are middling at best in the west. This whole shtick of urs that tries to impart wisdom from a place of experience (the habs???) as to what it takes to be a winner makes me laugh.

Frankly Ryan, you need to take a months leave of absence. I hate to troll because I think you're a great blogger when you want to be. but what the hell. You go up and you go down with the team, you base your thoughts on the end result which is fair but it's misleading at times. You do not have the balance to step back from wins or loses and just look at the game. Lets look at the realities, the oilers are not a cup contender yet, it's questionable if they are playoff contenders yet. Having said that they are better record wise now then they were at this same point last year. At the same time they have proven they have a mental block when it comes to playing western teams it seems. But with all your questions you overlooked the simple most important question. are they better? the answer as of right now compairing their ten games to seasons past the answer is yes. And manhandling is not a good description of last nights game. and regardless of if you agree with Eakins, or myself for that matter the oilers have played 8 pretty decent games this year. Their compete level is much higher then it was last year. They may still struggle to find wins but as a whole the hockey they are playing is much better then it was. 4-5-1 is better then an 0-6-2 record the hurcanes are starring in the face right now. So I think it's time you give the oilers some credit. They didn't panic when they played good games and lost and they've critizied themselves when they won a game they probably deserved to lose in maturity alone the team is leaps and bounds ahead of what it was. and that's all there is too it.

No offence dude but maybe you missed the point of his blog. I don't read any ebb and flow in this blog, just a pretty well written article. The point being the biggest thing lacking in the Oilers organization, is an identity.

I've said it many times, the biggest mistake Tambi did was not define what they were going to be or change the culture. I know you don't want hear it, but the best thing CGY has done, was define what they want to be, a hard working, tough to play against team. Management, coaches and most importantly the team, all bought in and continue to.

You missed the point entirely.

Your Post is no less short sighted. And just by saying "ur telling ur the cold hard truth" certainly doesn't make it so.

Team speed is shortsighted. IMO, the oilers have speed to burn, but In those last few games, especially the ones he's referenced, the oilers needed to play that collapsing, kind of disjointed defensive style to eke out 2 points. This is the definition of trying to build a identity. Teams don't have to (and absolutely shouldn't) be one track and pigeonholed into one style of hockey. This wasn't a lack of quick decision making, it was an adjustment. As far as ugly, grinding, counter punching, defensive wins; u of all people should understand that.

Not a tough team by any stretch as they have tried to ride smaller undersized kids. But they've added some size and functional toughness this offseason. Does this make them an especially tough team? No. They tried to build a culture of skill first as their identity and made some rotors or pigeonholed themselves abit and have tried to fix it.

They're young. Period.

An offensive team that is doing its absolute best to work on defensive acumen. This isn't about a identity, it's about addressing weaknesses.

We're incredibly small in skill positions. Have tried to address that.

I'd say resilient bu that's debatable. Certainly not as vulnerable as they have been.

Light. But as I said, they were built on smaller skilled forwards to begin with.

They've got some players who like to play a rough game. But the core is still reasonably kind.

I just don't think the blog, nor your post holds much validity

Wait, what?
Count his lucky stars Montreal play in Montreal? That doesn't make sense. Where do you want Montreal to play? Unless we start invited European teams into the NHL, I'm fairly confident Montreal will be an Eastern team from here on out.

Anywho, when you guys relocate to Quebec City, you can enjoy the poop conference and the domination that will ensue from Hall, Yakipoo, Nurse, Pouliot, Acton and Scrivens.
