I know Eklund's credibility for rumors is eh... But I believe there is something to Yandle and Vermette. - Santo_44
I would do that trade too.......Kadri and Gardiner for Yandle and Vermette. No draft picks involved, however. Kadri is a decent centre, but we already have Bozak as a good number 2. Yandle would help stabilize the defense and give the powerplay a boost. We still, however, need a good first line centre and jumbo Joe, or Eric Staal isn't the answer, for what they are asking.

Too bad Nonis doesn't know how. Raymond and Franson last deadline - Aaron_85
To be fair we were in a good spot at the deadline. If he traded Franson and Raymond at the deadline we would all be sitting here blaming Nonis for missing the playoffs because he traded Raymond and Franson. |

I agree I would have no hesitation trading for that package of Vermette and Yandle. Arizona would love to get Kadri.
Part of me wants us to go out and get Thornton or Staal but another part of me dosnt. If they were both 26 them again I would have no hesitation. |

Don't trade Kadri. Yandle would be nice but not at that cost. Kadri played well last game and overall he probably played better than people expected him to so far in his career. Bozak isn't as good as Kadri so they'd be downgrading the second line.. (frank) that. |

Kadri has a lot of potential. There is no doubt about that. I think his ceiling is a skilled number 1/2 center. Vermette can be a 50 pt player easily. Not only that but he can win faceoffs and play well defensively. Yandle is a great Defensmen. I don't think he gets enough credit for his defensive work.
I would do it. |

I don't think so. I think He will go in and either Robidas or Polak will sit. I would say sit Franson but we shouldn't do anything to bring down his value. |

Eric Staal will not waive his NTC.
He had discussions with Peter Karmanos, Ron Francis and Don Waddell over the summer and discussed his future as well as the future of the club.
He has publicly said that unless there is new ownership that wants to change the direction of the team, he doesn't want to leave.
Peter Karmanos wants him on the team. Francis wants him on the team (we think), Eric Staal wants to stay on the team.
He's not being traded. |

If the deal could be done like this...
Vermette+Yandle for Kadri, Franson and 2016 2nd rounder
Thornton for Gardiner+Holland and 2015 first rounder (protected top 10)
I'd be all over it. Doubt those deals get done so easily though. |

He's a UFA in 2016-2017. I think Arizona would do Kadri and a pick for that package. They are desperate for a young skilled player like Kadri. |

People always talk about the Detroit model.
There's some truth to the theory that holding onto your homegrown talent pays off. Leaf have none because everytime someone starts to get good they (frank)ing trade him. So no. Let's grow out draftees. Don't touch any of them. |

Franson was the bomb against Buffalo (the good kind).
Let's see if he'll be the bomb against Columbus (the bad kind). |

They still have OEL.....so maybe they see it as a salary dump. Kadri's bridge contract ends this year, so we have to pay him! Gardiner? He could turn out to be really good, but he could turn out to be one dimensional. So the odds are, one up and one down. One of the two will probably not reach their potential. You know what you get with Yandle and Vermette. Besides? If things go bad, Yandle is a great bargaining chip for a future trade, if need be.

We were in a good spot at the deadline. However as a GM you should properly assess your team. Were/are the Leafs an actual cup contender? No. So selling off assets like Raymond and Franson (Or at least one of them) can be sold to the fan base as continue to stock the cupboards as we are building for a contender not the playoff bubble. |
