Let me rephrase.

Don't call ghost up to scratch him. If you're going to scratch him, send him to the phantoms. He straight up was told this was a "game by game" thing anyway.

Scratching him shouldn't even he part of the game plan. He either plays in the NHL or he plays in the AHL. Period.

Ghost sitting for one game then playing against Florida is not a big deal

I think Simmonds has a big game tonight.
- Jsaquella

Why? Cause he is due?

Tonight Emery will know what it feels like to be Mason this season. I hope I'm wrong.
- GOA88

So tonight Emery will finally see quality shots? Phew, I was wondering when this would finally happen.

I don't think this statement shines a very positive light on to the Flyers. If they simply choose not to bring their "A" to and against Tampa, why bother showing up at all? I live in Detroit and there is no other build the Flyers have struggled in more then Joe Louis arena but wouldn't say that the Flyers don't give all they can give in these types of match ups.
- SuperSchennBros

No, its does not shine a positive light at all... I feel like the Flyers are always skating in quicksand at Tampa. Same with MSG....

The quality of shots Mason has been subjected to? Probably yes. I dont think anyone on here would disagree with me when I say Mason has had to face far more difficult chances.

Which is moronic because Ghost is light years better than Manning. sheesh!

I think talent is different then the current development level of each player.

Have to agree. I don't see it as a big deal if he sits tonight. Yes they want him to play and would rather it be in the AHL but they also want to make sure they have 7 dmen for the trip. I am fine if Manning plays tonight and I also think his experience will help tonight. Manning isn't a pylon out there and has a little more size so I think that would help against Tampa tonight

If that's what it turns out to be, then it could be worse I guess.

I dunno. I guess I don't exactly trust Berube. My worst fear is having this start a string of games where Ghost doesn't play

But hey. What do I know.

Manning does not belong in the lineup. Just that simple.

I think Emery has been the better goalie so far. This isn't to say Mason cannot return to form but Emery has been great so far.

I won't be. Manning is probably better equipped to play in the NHL right now. Ghost struggled at home against Detroit and LA; playing in Tampa is an even bigger challenge.
- Feanor

If that's the case, then Ghost should have been returned to the AHL and another defenseman (Lauridsen, most likely) should have been called up in his spot. You don't take a guy like Ghost along just to sit on the bench.

Not sure why Berube isn't trusted. And Gostisbehere sitting and not playing, would be on the general manager, and not the coach. The GM decides which players are called up, and which are sent down.

In the situation the Flyers are in, with 3 defenseman injured, yes he does. At this point Manning is more mature physically, and more experienced then Gostisbehere is.

Emery has played very solid. But he has hardly ever had to go east to west in his crease and when he does... Its an automatic goal. Mason has faced unstoppable shots on a regular basis. The team has played much better in front of Emery. I love that Emery is playing solid but Mason is far and away the better goaltender.

Bullpoop.

The coach decides who plays and sits. Those are the facts of the case and cannot be disputed.

So far, Berube has played Ghost exactly how he should: 12:34 of ice time per night (~10 at 5-on-5) against the lowest quality of competition (he's in the bottom 10 in QoC faced in the NHL). I don't think he'd scratch him for a long stretch of games. Hextall would just demote Ghost in that case. It seems to me that Berube and Hextall are on the exact same page with Ghost and his development.

This bloded portion is 100% incorrect. The GM determines the roster, healthy scratches included. The coach is the one who decides who plays and who is scratched. So it's 100% on Berube whether he sits Ghost or Manning.

I don't understand the whole not trusting Berube, Berube isn't a good coach, can't wait for someone else thing. How many coaches come in as the next great hope and flame out. I think berube has a good handle on his team. And I also think him and Hextall have a plan for this team. A lot of times it seems we have a gm who wants one thing and a coach who wants to play another way. But I just don't understand how Berube is this horrible coach. I think he needs more time with players he wants.

Outside of being big and strong, Manning is also more known as a defensive defenseman. Two very different types of players. Maybe Hextall and Berube feel they need something different for tonight's game?

If the coach decides he's not going to play, then the GM steps in an removes Gistisbehere from that situation and sends him back to the AHL. So if it becomes a situation where Gostisbehere is not playing hockey, that is on the GM. The NHL coach only decides if he plays in a game for the NHL team. He doesn't decide if Gistisbehere doesn't play anywhere.

Hopefully

I agree with how he's been used. I'm on the record as saying that I believe. But he would not be used correctly if scratched.
