To me, that is an incorrect way to officiate. There's a difference between giving a player the benefit of the doubt and flat-out refusing to call the penalty. He mentioned something similar about not calling a penalty the first time a player flipped the puck over the glass because he didn't want to. It's not up to him to decide when to enforce a penalty and when not to. If he sees a penalty committed on the ice, it is his responsibility to call it. Whether or not a player has earned a reputation comes into play when he is on the edge of whether it was a penalty or not.

Agree completely. Although I am in favor of the so called 3rd period rule book. That's probably contradictory, but I like it when they let minor infractions that don't affect the game much, when it's a tight game in the 3rd period.

What's he going to do with them? Watch sappy movies, eat ice cream and relate?

i could care less if he paints their toenails or practices taxidermy on them, as long as he remembers to tell the refs that interference still applies in the warmer months.

Quick - Evander Kane is returning to the lineup for Jets and is available on waiver wire in your fantasy league.

If you had to choose, would you hang on to Jeff Skinner or drop him for Evander Kane?

Aaaaaaand go.

That's what I was thinking too. Kane has no points yet but Skinner is a minus 5 and I don't foresee that turning around any time soon.

Jeff (Dan, according to Ek) Petry is not exactly "selling high."

i think this is probably the one area that you and i really disagree on. and its definitely rooted in opinion, so i really cant tell you that youre wrong. but just to me, i cannot see a pedagogical reason why the time on the clock should have a direct correlation due to how a game is reffed.

a penalty is a penalty is a penalty.

same with other sports, such as baseball. i understand certain refs/umps have their preferences on how lenient/strict they are. and thats one thing. but what generates one result at one moment in time, should generate the same result at a later instance, if the only changing variable is time.

After signing a one-year deal with HC Lev Praha in July 2013, Zherdev celebrated at the Barvikha Luxury Village hotel in Moscow where things turned violent, according to a Russian news report. Zherdev allegedly initiated a bar brawl at the hotel before crashing his Bentley Continental GT, which was later vandalized by locals who were outraged with his behaviour and scratched the words "scum", "bastard", and others into the vehicle's paint with nails. Damage to the vehicle was allegedly valued at $30,000. Barvikha Luxury Village hotel staff also claimed Zherdev spent nights there with various women, prompting his wife, Eugenia, to file for divorce. Zherdev also lost his passport as a result of the incident, meaning that he could not fly to his new team's training camp in Finland.

excuse me sir. I'm probably more Philly located/bred than 90 percent on here.

And i cannot attest to what mr bettman would in fact do.

All I care about is systematically eliminating the condoning of how the rangers play in the spring as "playoff hawkey"

Time is irrelevant in baseball. You could theoretically have a 5-hour half-inning in baseball.
In football, the refs just spin the wheel of every play and throw a flag when the wheel commands it.
Basketball, I can't even understand what a foul is any more.

In hockey, the reason a penalty isn't called late in a game the same way as it is earlier is because oh how important each goal is in a game, and because, if a game has gone 50+ minutes evenly, you'd hate for one team to lose based on a potentially minor infraction.

That said, I agree with you 100%.
