Leafs played a very weak team in the Sabres. The
Leafs have a good chance of beating Columbus who
have not been good recently.

How many defenseman have the Leafs gone through since Carlyle and Phaneuf arrived? Captain Dion has not led the Leafs through any time of drought. He is not the poster of what the Leafs are wanting to project as Carlyle has proven the ability to win a cup and carry a solid defense and hard work ethic. Phaneuf needs to be to be traded for the best return before the trade deadline in order for Carlyle further our defensive core. Phaneuf can still get a good return. Phaneuf is not carrying the defensive core so there's no reason not to trade for a replacement top four and a 1st, he's still our "best" defenseman and like I said has value. Bozak as our C would be the best. Undrafted college kid who gets signed and raised as a Leaf and every game shows true two way work ethic and the ability to lead through rough times, silently becoming a #1 centre.

Meh..

Bozak doesn't posses leadership qualities like some other captains. He doesn't exactly take over many games. Idk.. I want a Corey Perry or some other real power forward. Nash would have been cool.. Someone like Iginla used to lead. He was fearless.

Back into the frying pan on Monday. Amazing how a win over the worst team in hockey, coming off of a west coast visit to death valley can energize the fanboy base. It will be back to normal, when the Blue Jackets outwork us and pour in 6 goals, then the Hawks give us a combing and probably shut us out. Yawn......the mission continues.....10th place in the draft order, no playoffs.....wash.....rinse......repeat, wash......rinse......

I agree Percy, Polak and the rest can pick up the minutes. One hard game does not make Lupul captain material. On most nights this guy is WAY Too soft In his own zone and way to defensively irresponsible. The captain has to lead by example which is exactly why Dion is a terrible captain, he can't!!! Besides that Lupul is way too injury prone. Can't have a captain that spends 1/4 to 1/3 of the season on IR. I'd pick Clarkson over Lupul on grit and determination alone but he's a terrible choice as well. Let's face it from tykes up to the NHL the captain is 99% of the time the go to guy on the team. The guy that puts his team on his back during hard times and wills his team to victory. Clark? Gilmour? Sundin? Does anyone think Clarkson is that player on this team? No. Dion must go for reasons previously mentioned and for now this team has no captain because right now they don't have one period. Reilly some day maybe? For now they don't have one so do without. It's been done.

I don't think you'll find Leaf fan #1 who believes the game against Buffalo has earned them anything other than two points. They need to show that effort consistantly. I don't think even the most unabashed Leaf hater can say they aren't dangerous when they're on their game, it's staying on their game that has been the issue.
