well, from a narrow, technical standpoint, marriage needs to be (or is at least extremely useful) recognized in SOME capacity. call it what you want, attach to it what you will, but in some form something needs to be there.

it gets bogged down because it means so many things to so many different people, which leads to a lot of problems. but thats big, cumbersome issues like DOMA laws and junk like that. the boards been rough as it is today so i wont inject any personal beliefs on things of that magnitude in here.

however, stripping aside the sparkle, marriage has roots deeply entwined with contract law. as such, to me, prenupts should have a much more predominant role than they currently do. they get looked at with such scorn, when in actuality they are a tremendously undervalued and underutilized tool.

Understand the legal value of a prenupt but psychologically, it's hard to ask your partner for one because they'll know you think there is a possibility that the marriage will end. Statistically speaking, there is a good chance a marriage will end but humans would rather think that what they're doing is going to last forever and that their love is enduring etc etc.

People will also not ask for one for the same reason. They just assume it will work out because ideally it will. There's so much emotion and feeling wrapped up in marriage that I sometimes think that it has no business in law. Love is the most powerful human emotion so it's hard to expect people that are in love to mutually agree on a reasonable decision that involves love, if you get my meaning.

i dont disagree with any of this. i understand the rationale for sure. im just saying, in as little of a robotic tone as possible, they are logical and if used properly can do a lot of good for both parties.

I'd like to see Vinny back in the line up, but having him sit for these two road games might be the better option.

I just hope that he is as healed and as close to game shape as possible before playing again. Err on the side of caution.

No doubt. My undergrad is in business law, I work at a law firm now and I plan on going to law school soon so I totally get the robotic thing.

I know if I were to propose and ask my gf for a prenup, she would be appalled and that may very well end the relationshipt. Of course I would explain the logical premises and that I don't expect to get a divorce yadda yadda yadda but she'd still have none of it even if she agreed on a non-emotional level. Personally, I'm not a very emotional person and rarely have my judgment clouded by it but many other people I love are not that way. Love, man, it's a logic and reason assassin.

Supposedly, there were two in place, one before the discovery of his indiscretions, and one after. The second pocketed her something in excess of 100 mil.

I'm fine with him as the Flyers coach, but I certainly have similar criticisms that others have voiced. I don't get why he would put faith in Akeson during the playoffs last year where he seemed to excel on a line with Coots and Read and then decide he is somehow no longer capable.

Or maybe there is this idea that Umberger can't play on the 4th line because he makes too much money.

Whatever it is, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. I'm not saying Akeson has more than earned a spot in the top 9, but I'm not sure Umberger has either, really

- mcefalu

Agree 100%. My fear is that Akeson ends up being (unfairly) judged by the Flyers based on his current role (and Berube's apparent disdain for the player) rather than one for which he's infinitely more suited. Let's face it...we all knew he wasn't a fourth liner...he's just not that effective as a checking line winger getting limited minutes and no PP time. That's basically the opposite of how he should be used. While I think Berube's criticisms may have some truth to them they have to be taken in context and with the knowledge that he's playing in a role that is laregly out of his element. The kid didn't all of the sudden forget how to play hockey and produce points. Put him with players that have actual skill and talent (like with Read and Coots last season) and you'll see a much different look from Akeson imo. Hopefully the Flyers brass see it along those lines and aren't misled by Berube's current view. I would love to see Umberger and Akeson swap lines...I mean, RJ was a hair from being waived by Cbus. Why does he get an automatic slot (Akeson's spot from the playoffs) in the top 9? I don't care what the salaries are.

didnt she discover the indiscretions after they were married though? at that point, the line gets blurred between if it is in fact a prenuptial or not, which occurs before actually entering into the marriage.

If the Flyers win tomorrow, are they a ".500 team" or an "above .500 team"?

Need everyone's opinion ASAP.

I guess Berube had nothing to say about VdV's terrible performance on faceoffs, or him not picking up Richards on the Kings second goal, or the great shot Akeson put on Quick that almost resulted in a goal.
