There were no 3 point games back then. Teams played differently.

Their two wins they were vastly outplayed.

I was going to say, nothing on Augello's thread seemed particularly lock-worthy. Every second that thread is locked is costing Ek hits. That's like shutting down the oil patch in Alberta.

Didn't think so either. It was just the usual banter, with a bit of spice.

Yeah, that was nothing for the standards of that thread. Usually it takes a hundred straight pages of total war.

Actually it wasn't bad at all. I've seen the trolls in there getting away with murder and nothing happens. It's just a difference of opinion between Leafs fans, on the direction of the franchise.

It is, because of the size of the fanbase. It draws trolls and adversaries from all over. It's why Mike Augello writes a daily, so it doesn't get like Engels thread and changes the topic daily.

Yeah it is pretty funny sometimes. One troll comment can generate a couple of pages of counter attacks within a few minutes. I remember some days reading some really, really obscure, unwinnable debate going on in the morning, check back in in the evening dozens and dozens of pages later and it's the same thing still going.

I know why people get mad at my posts, because they want the team to win. I too want the team to win, but look at it long term. I see no accountability or any leadership. It's nice to think that they can beat some team that's bottomed out and going nowhere, but we are going nowhere either. We have talent, but not the right mix of talent. We just keep spinning our wheels, with the same result every year. They have to break the cycle or we'll still be debating this 5 years from now.

Well, it's really Shanny manning the ship now, at least there are some indications of new thinking on his part so far. I feel like he might have a better sense of what needs to be done than some of his predecessors. What his next moves are over this season is an open question, that'll determine whether the cycle gets broken.

I am glad that for the first time in forever we have kept picks like Rielly, Nylander, young former top picks like JVR, young goalie like JVR. Not trading firsts is different for Toronto at least.

People need to realize the Shanny/Dubas regime has barely even started. They have made what? 1 pick, and a couple signings?

my the beginning of next season we might have seen a few significant changes and signs of improvement. But Draft is still going to be part of it.

Like what I see coming on D - Rielly and Percy obviously, but Finn is going to be a stud. Loov and Nilsson look good too, and Granberg as well if his skating improves.

really is too bad Biggs is looking like a bust, because what he was "supposed to be" is 100% what this team needs so badly.

What the Leafs have needed for years is goaltending, centers and top-four defenders. They have Bernier and nothing else. Power forwards are way down on the list of things the Leafs need.

Agreed. Yeah, Biggs actually being a Lucic-type player would have been pretty sweet, but so far that looks like a Burkie swing-and-a-miss.

Next up you gotta hope if Nylander is a pure skill pick that can play centre, that it translates into a highly skilled NHL centre. Cause we need.

Morgan Rielly isn't a top 4 defender?
