Flyers played well without our top defensemen. Looks like having a bunch of mobile puck movers helps this team generate offense, but it seems like we have trouble pushing the pick out of our own zone. They did good containing la to the perimeter for the most part though.

The play of the coots line seems to have dropped off this year. I think they played much better with akeson as the third guy on that line. Umberger would make a our fourth line better and I think it would enhance the third line letting akeson move up.

I think it is one of the more consistant lines. Last night they pretty much went head to head with the hottest line in the NHL and still created chances for themselves. Also I think Couturier is being more agressive offensively after they get out of their own zone. Yes I think that line could use a winger with sandpaper and skill in his game like Marchand, foligno, or even chris stewart but that line is the least of my worries.

Getting Vinny back will help the fourth line because then PEB will slide back to center it then.

I hate to say it but we have a goalie controversy on our hands. It doesn't need to be an issue unless Mason makes it an issue. It could just as likely be a blessing.

Heck, at least we have one gaolie playing well- which is a huge plus for the Flyers over the past few centuries

- coffee junkie

If it doesn't need to be an issue, then how is it a controversy?

But, you're right. It's nice to have the Emery on top of his game.

Anyone that watches the Flyers knows, Emery is the goalie now, until he starts letting pucks in, and he will, then Mason is back. They have 2 mediocre to slightly above mediocre goalies to be honest and it's gonna be this way all year
- twpguy

Emery has sure looked mediocre lately. And Mason is far better then mediocre to slightly above mediocre.

It isn't a controversy. Emery isn't a number 1, and wouldn't hold up as a #1 goalie. He's a dam good backup who is currently doing his job well.

Here on the coast I listen to the Flyers on satellite radio and enjoy Tim Saunders' delivery. But Steve Coates is horrible. His loud voice never stops or eases up. He's still parsing out the last play when the game has moved on. I hope the Flyers brass will also tire of this buffoon.

Flyguys played real well for most of the game and got great goal tending. Still, conditioning is a problem after they have expended so much in a period, like the first.

Kings TV heads making a big deal out of Kopitar being out. No mention of our top three D in the infirmary.

Flyers playing the game the right way.

- BlvdAl

Good win for the Flyers...Missing Kopitar is huge not only for his Offense but he's a great back checker. We're also missing Gabrorik, Lewis and Voynov. Never the less I' was impressed with the Flyers game.

Flyers were missing their top 3 defenseman and Lecavalier.

Take Doughty and Martinez out along with Voynov, and then you're catching up.

Mason has had some bad luck this year where the D has hung him out to dry. Razor has played amazing, but I think Mason will be the guy at some point this season.
I will take the wins for now!!

I have to agree that being 4-3-2 at this point is a good position to be in especially playing against teams with a combined record of 49-23-11.

Schultz and MDZ have been pleasant surprises.
Voracek really did play like a superstar last night.
I like Ghost a lot, but he was clearly outmuscled several times last night, having said that his puck skills and skating are really good.
Couts doesn't look outstanding on the ice at times, but almost every game the other teams best lines don't seem to score much. That says something to me about how great a player Couts really is.

Bill,

Where is the Alumni game this weekend? The Alumni website hasn't updated their game schedule in a while.

God the Sabres are just terrible. They could get 10 shots on net against the Leafs!

I don't know how Tyler Myers is on a -2 on that team. He must/is playing well

He really hasn't played that great, or at least didn't in the two games I watched.

Why give the excuse about who was missing for the Kings then? Flyers are in the same boat.

There's nights that it seems the Flyers haven't heard about team defense. Seriously, getting the forwards and defensemen on the same page has been a long standing issue for the Flyers.

It's starting to get better, but it remains a work in progress. Both teams are banged up and missing key pieces.

Someone sounds bitter about the loss. The Kings were a heavy favorite to win last night, even with Kopitar, Voynov and Gaborik out..... Have you had a chance to look at our current defense dressed due to injuries? Quick vs. Emery is a lopsided battle as well. Flyers just outplayed the Kings is all. No need for excuses.

He averages 24:30 a game. He must be holding his own. That team has zero offensive output.

Exciting game last night. Flyers played well and earned 2 points. Given the tough schedule and current state of the blueline pretty impressive.

What a competitor J. Quick is. Guy has won 2 cups and a Conn Smythe in the last 3 years, and he loses his poop over a meaningless point in October. What a stud he is.

True. The games I watched he struggled, but wasn't out for many goals against. I'm just still wary of the contract combined with the inconsistent play over the last few years

Even though I know the Flyers can't sustain this kind of play over the course of the season, it was nice to see them play so well against a team like the Kings. Voracek was on point last night too. He was everywhere. The Kings were lucky to have held him to only two points.

Solid team win.

Most pleasant surprise for me so far this season has been the play of Schultz.

Just finished saying this on twitter...

If they can somehow sustain this level of puck support and team defense, they could be a good team. Just worried about old habits creeping in.

Would it be unfair to point out that Simmonds has gone from our hottest to our coldest player? I ask because what if Lecavalier had a hand in why he was playing so well.
- SuperSchennBros

I don't think he is playing that much worse, if at all worse, than he was to start the season. The bounces aren't going his way. Besides, he was off to a blistering pace which was never going to be sustained.

Just saying, without amac, flyers are 2-0.. small sample but something interesting nonetheless
- tweaver3312

With AMac as their #1 with Coburn out they just beat Dallas and Pittsburgh on the road. But now the people who think CF% by itself determines a defenseman's performance have some new whipping boys.

Detroit 66 CF - Flyers 25 CF = 27%
Kings 65 CF - Flyers 60 CF = 48%

Grossmann - 31-43 = 41.9%
Schultz - 23-36 = 39%
LSchenn - 34-53 = 39%
Ghost - 16-28 = 36.4%

Different player from what we saw in the pre-season. He looked like toast. He's played very well. Not sure he can sustain it, but it's nice while it lasts.
