Right, a "pretty good" shot. But not good enough for me to consider him a sniper.
- MBFlyerfan

Nah, it's better than pretty good. Probably has the best wrister on this team after G and Vinny. He just doesn't get put in a position to use it much.

Well, Mason is here to take on the wolves......
- MBFlyerfan

Emery has been the better goalie. The LA Kings are their current Stanley Cup Champions and the Tampa Bay Lightning have Steven Stamkos. I don't think it would be fair to throw Mason into a start right now. However we face the Florida Panthers on Saturday, why not start rebuilding Mason's then?

I think the Flyers will use Bellemare situationally. At least I hope they will. I also hope that when Lecavalier comes back, the 4th line will get better, with Bellmare back there.
- MJL

If they replace PEBs with Vinny...then PEBs should take Hamburglers spot at wing and drop him back to 4th line. Dont waste the mad frenchman on the 4th line.

Yes.....I wouldn't go so far as to say they have jerked him around, but I do think it almost seems as if they aren't quite sure what to do with him.

I DO think that leaving him at wing this season despite the injury to VLC tells us that maybe they finally see what some of us also see...that his skill set is much better suited to wing.

- MBFlyerfan

I feel he's always played better at center. He's been thrown from center to wing his entire career and he's played most of his career with 5v5 anchors, Briere and VL.

Once he got away from VL last year, his production increased on a line with Hartnell and Simmonds or Raffl and Simmonds. He became a positive possession player and was able to be deployed in more situations.

On top of it all, Berube has made it abundantly clear that he does not think highly of Schenn. Schenn never gets the benefit of the doubt with this coaching staff like many other players do. The staff also bends over backwards to try and find the perfect spot for VL, but will just throw Schenn in any spot that's convenient.

Needs to start jumping 874mm off the ice to deliver hits.
- jmatchett383

His average jump height seems to hover in the 400-425mm range. So yes, I would agree.

We're what? Eight games into the season?
- SuperSchennBros

Well, if you get your way, Emery will have 6 of the first 10 starts. I'm fine with playing the hot goalie, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the other goalie.

Also, I like how 8 games and 4 starts is sufficient to "put the "Mason is a top ten goalie in the league" to rest," and imply that Mason needs to be "rebuilt."

When Vinny went down last year, Schenn went 15 games without scoring a goal.

I don't know if PEB work work as a 3W. I'd rather keep him at center. If he's a 4C, he'll hopefully make that a line that can be trusted to play more than a few minutes a night. Nothing wrong with some skill distribution.

Mystique is all it is though. I want the team to always make the decision based on what will make the team better.

Win or lose tonight, I'm hoping Berube rides Emery at least heading into Thursday night's match up. Do not make a loss tonight an excuse to throw Mason to the wolves.

I'm also hoping this put the "Mason is a top ten goalie in the league" to rest. He was very good last season and I have no doubt he'll return to form this season but he has to prove it year in and year out. Emery is a very capable back up, there is no need to downplay what he can do. Emery was very good down the stretch last season.

- SuperSchennBros

Not that "Mason is a top ten goalie in the league" is a fact, but any criticism of him so far this season is not fair at all. I dont even think Patrick Roy in his prime would have a shot at stopping at least 95% of the goals Mason has let in this season.

Nothing to rebuild! Play some defense in front of him and see what happens. Emery made 35 routine stops against the Wings. Emery has been solid but he has not faced the quality of chances Mason has.

I have more confidence in him then Jeremy Roenick does but I don't think he's a top ten goalie.

Mason is the starting goalie and should be playing the difficult games. If he can't be "thrown to the wolves" than he shouldn't be a starter. Emery played a few good games in a row but that doesn't really mean anything more than he played a few good games in a row. We know what kind of goalie Emery is - solid, reliable back-up. Mason needs to get the starts that he is supposed.

During that 9 game stretch, Schenn had 0 goals, 4 assists and was a +3.

You may be right but I seriously doubt more than a handful of goalies right now would have faired better than Mason in the games he has played.

Mason had one bounce back season last year after five of being bad in Columbus. He had to be rebuilt when he got here.

Not bad. It's a start. I'm sure we can do better.

Dude. Mason played for the one of the worst teams ever for like 4 years straight. The defense probably was even worse.
