1) Further note about LA cap situation: under CBA's roster emergency exception (50.10), team will be able to call up a player earning...

2) $650,000 or less without cap penalty once it plays a game shorthanded. So, if Kopitar is out a second game, LA can add a player...

3) There were reports the Kings wanted to call up Jordan Weal. He earns $610,000 on a one-way contract, so he could fit.

I think that is a new rule for the current CBA. And it's a good one.

The NFL did nothing and the public wasn't all that upset as a whole until the video was released. Then everyone was calling for his head, yet we knew EXACLTY what happened in that elevator months earlier. No video for Voynov plus hockey players are seen as the "gentlemen of sports" for some reason and by that I mean people think they're not "thugs" and "criminals" like NBA and NFL players. Of course part of this has to do with race whether people want to admit it or not. I refuse to get into that here though.

I haven't read anything about the allegations against Voynov. I would assume that if the NHL suspended him indefinitely, they have the goods on him.

Also, Rice was more well-known, both within football as well as in the national media whereas Voynov isn't a star player and plays a much less popular sport in regards to the US market.

Gaborik, Kopitar, Voynov, and Lewis all out.

Not going to find a better day to take on the Kings.

Possible, but I also think in the wake of the Rice mess, combined with the criticism of Varlamov last season, they figured to be proactive

I agree, but given the potential scrutiny the Rice case could bring, the NHL, unsurprisingly, acted pre-emptively to avoid any possible issues.

I agree with their decision. The NFL completely botched the situation with Rice. It was also an interesting sociological event in terms of the visual evidence vs. only the narrative of what happened and how each elicited a different response from most people. To me, some people seem to think of the Voynov thing in a lot less harsh terms than they did with the pre-video Rice situation.

Yup. I think so. The NFL botched the Rice situation so badly. I'm sure all leagues will use that as a precedent and get out ahead of things.

If Voynov does eventually go to trial, and is found innocent, I wonder if he could sue the NHL?

I doubt it. They had legitimate reason to suspend him. I'm not sure of exact CBA wording or what his contract states but I'm sure what they are doing with him is within legal bounds.

So again, I'll ask why should the Kings be punished and have to lose a good young player? Why should they have to give the player away? You aren't making much sense here.
- MJL

Was the suspension a league mandated suspension? If so I totally see what you mean. If not, I have no clue what you mean.
