Mason is the starting goalie and should be playing the difficult games. If he can't be "thrown to the wolves" than he shouldn't be a starter. Emery played a few good games in a row but that doesn't really mean anything more than he played a few good games in a row. We know what kind of goalie Emery is - solid, reliable back-up. Mason needs to get the starts that he is supposed.

Wow. I just stated that he should start Saturday against a weaker opponent so he's not facing tough calibre teams while he still rusty. There is still plenty of time for him to get tough start. It's October.

Granted, that handful probably constitutes the 'top-10'
- Tomahawk

When I say handful... Quick, Lunqvist, Bishop, Rask and Price come to mind. They get torched with bad defense too.

To assume I'm not furthers my point. You're wrong.
- SuperSchennBros

If you did than you wouldnt be saying Mason needs to be "rebuilt".

I would HATE to be a Flyers goalie. Constant scrutiny, blamed for everything, unrealistic expectations. Maybe if Mason was Superman he could have stopped all those wide open cross crease one-timers. HE SUCKS!

The margin between the cream of the crop, and the next 20-30 guys is like 5-10 more saves per 1000 shots -- it's so small it's not much of a practical advantage.

So yeah, I don't think even those guys you listed would have fared much better than Mase under the circumstances, but SSB's also got a point when he says that Mase tends to get overrated in here.

I know, I just don't see why he should be sheltered. I don't think that will help him. He hasn't been that bad either or at least not bad enough to shelter him, IMO.

The "mad frenchman", eh?

Not bad. It's a start. I'm sure we can do better.

He has not been bad at all. I am not typically someone who stands up for a goalie when he allows a lot of goals. But I simply cant blame him for the results as of yet. His defense has been a complete joke in front of him.

Now EK is claiming the Flyers are in on talks for Yandle.
I can't see that one happening as the cost would be out of this world!

Like Bill has said a few times now, his numbers are largely the result of shoddy defense and not his actually ability. While he hasn't made many "big saves" he has really only allowed one "weak" goal.

Because the cost For Dman is very high at this time.
Don't get me wrong, I would take Yandle. Would B Schenn get it done?

if Dwight King scores short side bearing down the left wing within the first two minutes of this game, I am seeking psychiatric help.

Tippett loves Yandle like a son... no idea why they would trade him when they've got other pieces on D they could move instead.

(and no, not OEL, lol)

Despite having 2 stud dmen, the Yotes aren't really close to being a contender in the Western Conf. I can see them shaking things up.
