On a good to great team Myers would still fall into the 3D range until he starts to pick up his offensive production. He had a very good West Coast trip, let's see if he keeps it up.
- GilPerreault11

Id say that all depends.

He'd be the 2nd best guy in LA. I don't buy that Muzzin or Voynov are better.

He'd probably be Anaheims best defender. They don't have anyone considered great.

Id say outside of 2-3 teams he would probably play on the top pair

Give it a break . You are so persecuted . Commenting as an educated observer . Jets kept putting eight in the box on typical running plays, sometimes if you throw in passing plays on not typical downs it will loosen the run defense up . Even the splits the defensive lineman were taking and how close the linebackers were playing to the line of scrimmage indicated they were looking for the run . Any educated observer with good football knowledge would have picked up on it . It is calling reading keys.

Did you see Orton come to the sidelines after the numerous 3 and outs . His face showed serious frustration with the play calling .

I actually agree with you on all of this. Hackett is not an NFL offensive coordinator. His playcalling and personnel usage suck. Still the fact of the matter is, you are doing the same thing you accuse me of doing when I'm critical of the Sabres. It's a double-standard.

He would be each team's biggest who skates great but defensively he had a quite a few lapses even on the WC trip. I doubt he'd be LA's or Anaheim's most consistent in the D zone. Those guys don't need to have specific D men like Tallinder and now it appears Gorges to help them play their game. So until he can play with almost any other partner and be the leader and not be led by another I'd say 3D is pretty close.

Yea I don't really agree. He was really good last year when we didn't have Gorges, and when Tallinder actually dragged his #s down.

Gorges is benefitting from Myers playing extremely well to start the season

I think Myers playing really good last year is a bit of revisionist history. I just read an article trying to find out when Myers was 1st put on the market and a former NHL coach said in the Edmonton newspaper in March when word was out that Myers was being shopped that he would give him a "C" in his play and he's not sure what happened to his game.

Here is what I read:

Where is the real Tyler Myers?

Most disturbing downturn this season? Tyler Myers.

The Buffalo Sabres defenceman won rookie-of-the-year honours in 2010; everybody figured he was Norris Trophy worthy and an automatic for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.

Huge frame, nice hands, commanding presence on the ice; he was captain material with the Sabres. Now?

“What’s happened to this guy? He’s six-foot-eight, he can move the puck. He doesn’t look anything like the player of a couple of years ago,” said one former NHL coach who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Myers is a shell of his former Calder-winning self. His play is better than it was early in the season, but it’s only a ‘C’ on most report cards. His name is certainly out there for trade, but with six years and $33 million left on his deal, he’s a financially risky pickup.

That said, the same former NHL coach stated, “I’m sure 29 other teams would like to take a run at him, figuring he just needs to be somewhere else. You know how it is.”

Did we see Myers at his best when he was 19?

It's not revisionist history at all.

He had 9 goals in 60 games on the lowest scoring team in the league, he also played against the toughest competition, and had the lowest quality of teammates.

Basically when John Scott and other liabilities we're on the ice, they put Myers out there.

Well we do not know who the former NHL coach they interviewed is. I'm sure it's someone with a clue about Myers or why ask him? Anyway, Myers started off very poorly and picked up his game but I wouldn't lift it to the level of really good in the defensive zone last year.

He's fine in his own zone.....I'm not sure where this notion that he can't play defense came from. From a really bad 40 games during a lockout season?

with -1 rating . Please show specific instances . He has had the odd lapse . But doesn't any player? I have been very happy with his defensive zone play. Really happy with the developing chemistry between him and Gorges.

The comments on Myers seem like they could be 2 years old . Not at all from last or this season . Maybe this journalist and the coach the comments are attributed to should actually watch the games.

I'm as tired watching Boobie up the middle for 2 yards as everybody else, but dont you think Hackett knows what you're trying to explain? Of course he does.

This was the type of game where we didnt need to take chances. We still won by 20 points playing conservative on O.

Isn't he an NHL ready young player? He's only 24. And will be in his prime when this team is in the position to make a good run.

Maybe since this team can't score NHL ready young forward/s with offensive skill who can finish?
