James Tanner: Coyotes Should Trade W/ Bruins, Flyers
With injuries hitting the Blue Lines of the Bruins and Flyers, the Coyotes should swoop in and pick up a forward. - James_Tanner
Why would the flyers trade Schenn for murphy? If they move him it will be for Yandle or Michalek. Someone who is a proven NHL talent and a legit number 2-3 guy. They have a 50pt player in Schenn right now and he still has upside to get better so I dont think it would be smart to give that up for such an unproven defense man when they could just call up Ghost or one of their own guys. |

I definitely like your concept James, but, Brayden Schenn's value is much greater than Connor Murphy. Yotes would have to offer more, way more!! |

It would be the Coyotes having to add the pick, not the Flyers. The Boston deal isn't as bad to be fair. |

I don't think Schenn is any more proven than Murphy is. He has a career high 41 points and his chance to be a #1 C is about equal to that of Murphy being a #1 D. Schenn's 23, Murphy is 21.
Braydon Schenn is not worth Keith Yandle. That conversation involves Cotourier.

Connor Murphy for Scott Laughton is more in the ball park |

I don't think the Flyers deal is bad at all. First, the Flyers are a team in desperation mode, so no one's offering them a totally fair deal. Second, I just don't think people who don't watch too much AZ hockey know all that much about Murphy.
This is a two-way defenseman who can skate and is the total package. Defenseman are generally worth more than forwards. Also, Schenn isn't really developing in the way it was thought he would.
When he was on LA, everyone in the world thought he'd be a star by now. |

Even with a career high of 41 points he has played more hockey and isnt as big of a question mark. I wonder what we should be asking for Larsson since he has tons of potential and lets not forget asking and getting are two different things. Murphy has played 36 career games in a system and on a team most would consider to be defensive minded. To throw him into a team like the Flyers would be a huge change from what he is used to in Arizona. If they move Schenn it will be for a player who has established them self in this league. Like I said they dont have to trade schenn at all if they are looking to have an player with little experience to come in as they could just call up one of their young prospects. |

Fair points, all. however, I will say that Murphy has been brought along slowly and even though he's technically a rookie, he's an experienced one. Playing in PHX I am sure he's not well known around the league but he's potentially a #1 or #2 guy.
I am sure the Flyers would love to have him. Is he worth Schenn? Hell, what do I know. I am just saying, for the Coyotes to consider moving a Dman with such upside, it'd take a guy with similar upside who can play C. |

Ok but that doesnt mean I wouldnt get laughed at if I asked for Schenn for John Merril who is a great young two way defense man. They wouldnt trade him in a package for Weber and Hextall isnt the jump the gun kind of guy hommer was. They will sit pat and get a top 10 draft pick or slug it out and climb to a respectable position. To me moving Schenn creates a big hole for them up front they dont have very many good forward prospects to fill his production and especially if the defense they are getting in return for him would likely be of little help to them this season it just makes them worse all around. |

What do you think the cost of a very good #2 D man is? Chris Kelley is included to lessen the Bruins cap hit, so that the trade looks like this:
Michalek + Salary Cap Space for Spooner and a Pick. - James_Tanner
You're talking about being Michalek actually being a #2 or a 2nd pair type of guy? Cause that's what Michalek is now, a 2nd pair defensemen, or #3 at best.
The cost? Matt Fraser, Jordan Caron(Maybe) and a conditional 3rd. |

I get it and I am not coming at you by any means just pretty bored. I think though you would be better off keeping Gormely and Murphy and moving Yandle for what ever kid Edmonton gives up on. Or move a bigger piece like yandle for something bigger from the flyers. I really want us to move on from Larsson for how we have abused him but I know we would never trade with the flyers, Any team who gets Larsson from us will surely win the trade because of what we have done to his value and he really just seems like he needs a change of scenery at this point. I actually think us Devils fans and Flames fans have pretty much agreed on Larsson for Baertschi lol |

If it involves either young player then it would have to involve atleast Yandle....Murphy is young and green....that doesn't help the Flyers today. They have there own young and green d men they can play.
They may be desperate for D help....but they need experience.... |

Coots for Yandle?
After all the other rumors that were shot down because we wouldn't move Coots for better D men?
Flyers have 4 strong D prospects in the system. They aren't going to be put over a barrel because AMac and Coburn are going to miss a month. |

I agree philly and AZ would be great partners for a trade.
I think Connor Murphy is underrated and would be a good get for philly, and i would certainly be willing to trade schenn, as philly has laughton in the minors.
i think philly would need to get a second rounder at least to make the deal worth while for the flyers, simply because of the experience factor.
i could also see flyers trading schenn for a player like cody franson on toronto if philly could magically get the cap to work lol.
What would you guys estimate the trade value of gormley? or is he a total untouchable?
im clearly no pro scout over here as i thought rundblad was going to be a stud d man. |

Mr Tanner
The Schenn deal isn't bad value wise.
With Gags and Schenn you guys would lead the league in unfulfilled potential at the C position.
5 years ago those 2 would have looked like a scary 1-2 punch to build around, but not so much now.
But they are both still young guys so they could be a decent fit with the skilled kids you have in the pipeline.
Your philosophy is bang-on though. Put some pieces in place for the next 2-3 years, by selling some of the crazy D depth and maybe moving a few vets at the deadline. |

agreed. coots is still one of the most underrated players in the entire league. the dude shut down malkin as an 18 yr old rookie in the playoffs. each year as he adds muscle hes gotten even better. his best asset is his attitude, he never seems rattled, the dude will end his career with a selke and a C on his shirt. |

Hard to say I mean its a different guy running the ship now then it was when Coots was an untouchable. Its also been a few years and both players have been called out by management to produce more points. If Coots never comes around with his production I dont think he would be what the yotes need then. You cant under value a player who is so great at shutting others down but they need guys to score for them. |

When Coots starts being put in offensive situations I'll start worrying about his ability to score.
He has 5 points right now. With the amount of D Zone starts he gets I'm okay with that for right now. |
