They seem pretty 'self contained' thus far. Easy two points, says I.
Also, Thank you, Jesus, that we didn't land Iginla. I know many, many of you were pulling for that- I was not. Not even a little. Been singing Vrbata's praises before and since. Not only his playing style...... but you gotta admit, his face does have 'alien-like' qualities to it. He belongs with the twins, on many levels.

My comment stands ...any Canucks fan who thinks Vrbata is a God for his tap ins is understandable ...but to say Iggy could not tap in each amazing goal Vrbata scored...please start watching hockey for a living ...I give the Sedins all the credit for the goals ...Iggy proved tonight he made the right choice ...and am happy he chose Colorado over van...playoffs are important to him
- Redmile247

Is that a job? What the hell am I thinking, I'll just go out tonight and start watching hockey, hopefully money will end up in my bank.

If Iginla really wanted to win, he would have stayed in Boston, for less money so their cap worked. Colorado isn't going to make the playoffs this year.

Amazing that in such a lopsided loss anyone could be plus. Was he on for PP goals against?

Fair enough. I just have beef with Miller getting paid elite $ when he's clearly no longer elite. If he were paid Lack money I'm sure the gripes would be more muted.

Above all it seems like we've been progressively downgrading our quality between the pipes for no apparent gain on the ice that I can understand.

- AlexF

He's not getting "elite money"? You're stuck in five years ago. Out of the 30 starting positions there are currently 11 goaltenders making more money than him, he's got the same salary, not cap hit, as Jimmy Howard and Mike Smith.

Daniel is 3rd in league scoring - where's Vantel?

That top line now has 9 goals in 7 games…which puts them around 90+ goals for the year combined, if they can maintain that?

It's still early, but there are 18 goalies with a better GAA, I'd say $6m is "elite" money compared to many of the guys on that list.

With so few games played that number can change drastically with a 30 save shutout on Sunday, let's see where he's at come December.

Obviously, but I think "6" is a pretty big number for a GT still. More than Lu...

I disagree - I look at their salary not their cap hit, which like in Lu's case can be skewed by the term. Lu is getting paid 6.7 million dollars.

It was three games in four nights and the reality is we're going to be a bubble team, which is what most of us thought…love them for who they are

I know. I think bubble team is still quite ambitious. They most likely won't make the play offs but at least this product is so much more watchable compared to last season's abortion.

Nashville is first in the Central, Calgary is third in the Pacific…lets give it some time here. I think they need to make some changes from the early games that I've seen, but easier said than done.

Whats the story with Virtanen? Anybody watch the game?

Checked CHL website and boxscore summary link was broken

However Cole Cassels continues to dominate the OHL.

- classic321

I was at the game last night and although Virtanen only managed to get 1 assist it was a beauty of a pass through 3 ice players. He showed very explosive speed and even through his body around a lot more than I expected from him. He had about 2 or 3 great drives to the net where made the opposing d men look silly. Overall I'm pleasantly surprised on what I saw last night and couldn't even tell this was his first game back

I'm in no panic. I think this team will look a little different in the new year. Remember the Maple Leafs are well on their way to winning the cup every October and look where they end up by March. We should have a fairly good read on our team by January. Like I was saying, though, a much more entertaining brand of hockey thus far.

I double disagree, cap hit is the only consideration that we should take into account. You could never compare Weber to another player in the league, and while Lu's actual salary at the end of his contract is only $1m, he still "costs" his team $5.3m.

From the limited views I've had thus far, the team looks somewhat slow, they definitely need a youth injection. Hamhuis, who used to be such a great skater, has looked slow? He can't catch anyone which results in a few breakaways if he's the last man back.

I see your point, but how do you compare deals that were signed under a different set of rules? I guess the bottom line is he costs what he costs but we're comparing similar things under two different sets of rules.

How about this, compare Miller to goaltenders that signed deals this year or last year only…I haven't, but I'll look.

A few goaltenders have signed deals under the new set of rules/currrent cap. Goalies who's signed in 2013 onward. He's gonna give you Crawford or Lehtonen type goaltending, so his cap hit is definitely not out there in my opinion.

Lundqvist - cap hit $8.5 million
Rask - cap hit $7.0 million
Crawford - cap hit $6.0 million
Miller - cap hit $6.0 million
Lehtonen - cap hit $5.9 million
Varlomov - cap hit $5.9 million
Quick - $5.8 million

I apologize for losing us the game last night. Seemed like the more adult beverages I consumed, the more goals the Avs scored.

The only issue was that we were the only team Miller would go to. I think they should have done 2 years at 6m or 3 at 5m.
