I've never heard of this but am really excited to watch it now. Thanks for sharing. - AlexF
If you are a fan of the shining then you got to watch it. At times it goes a bit far but it's fun to watch the doc and then watch the movie again. Changes everything. |

Coffee, actually. I've found that alcohol and other things........don't agree with me. It's nice to remember on a daily basis where I've parked my car, and actually know the person I wake up next to. - roland_hazard
I hear ya,,, I got sick of the police chases, waking up in the drunk tank after brawling sprees and the thousand dollar night outs. Just a *smoker* these days. I find it easy to control.... I was on a 10 year booze bender... out of control. About 18 beers and a 3rd of a 26er of Jamiesons daily... and if I were actually partying.... much more. Lost 35 lbs in 6 months when I quit.

I first saw the Shining when I was 9 and my folks snuck me into the show in the trunk of their car. I was scared poopless.

Shining was brilliant. As was Black Christmas as Cuban alluded to (scariest movie I've seen as a kid)
But if you want to really get the chills, I very strongly recommend Sinister......one of the only movies (and I've seen zillions of horror etc flicks - including foreign) that made me freak out a little - SINISTER. From the very first scene you are grabbing your onesy and hiding under the pillow
Edit: the only thing that let me down after this intense effort was, yes, you guessed it, the ending (not the ending ending but the VERY ending, as in the last two or three frames. Otherwise it is the perfect creepfest |

I have to sit down and watch both again. What people see that I have never noticed, lol, it is almost like cloud watching. There is that scene with the office and in/out tray.
That documentary makes you appreciate the film a bit more. |

It's pretty much one of the only films that is true to the book and translates brilliantly. Apparently Stephen King didn't feel it represented his vision, though, from what I've heard. Come on, Stephen, you've got to be kidding |

Watch that documentary. It will make you rethink what you believe the movie to be. |

Don't do it, that's gateway poetry. Before you know it, you'll be writing free verse. |

Stephen King is a great writer, one of my favourites, but he doesn't know poop about movies. |

I hear ya. A lot of potential in many of his works in terms of translating to the screen and most efforts failed.
Cuban, as I alluded to above, you MUST see Sinister. It'll freak you out (and as I mentioned, I have seen probably every single horror, thriller, foreign flick there is in those genres) |

It's funny that you recommend that because that's exactly what I've queued up for download. Kubrik was a master director and most if not all of his movies are enriched not just by cinematic symbolism but deeper running narratives. I'm curious to see what they cover in the documentary because I had a few thoughts of my own after watching it again a few years ago. |

I've seen it. I was talking about it last night, but couldn't recall the name. Really good. The videos that he finds are so so creepy. |

Too true. It seems like for most of those failures the studios never gave the scripts the respect they deserved, assigning B-grade actors/directors/budgets to the project. Kubrik and Nicholson working on the Shining obviously is a outlier.
I read a couple years ago that Warner Bros was contemplating making a Dark Tower film (The Gunslinger only) and then following it up with an HBO series to cover the remaining books. Javier Bardem was slated for Roland, then Russell Crowe. Seems like that idea was scrapped. Too bad as it sounded much more interesting than [insert superhero movie here] part 3. |

I know eh! Ever since Daniel had that injury a few years back (not the concussion, the one before that) Hank just blew by him in scoring prowess. Prior to that, Danny was the sniper and everyone wanted Hank to start shooting... just once.

On that creepy note, although it's not out and out scary, I watched The Enemy with Jake Gylenhaal earlier this year. Great piece of psychological thriller. |

I almost hope that they don't. The Stand is my favourite book, but the mini series is unwatchable. Not all stories translate well to different mediums, in fact, most don't. The Shinning is a notable exception. So is Shawshank Redemption, amazing movie. |

I'll have to give it a go. I remember coming home one night when I was still a kid, tripping on Schrooms and watching Donnie Darko on TV. I had never heard of it before, it just happened to be on. Weird weird night. |

Good call! that was what freaked me out. The videos are insanely creepy
Too bad the very last few frames were a @#$@#$ cop-out. But on the whole, I found it to be easily top 10 horror. |

I think it was pretty much madness to think that the Stand could possibly be made into a movie (incidentally one of my favourite King books).
Only a few that I found were worthy of the books were - The Shinging, Shawshank, Stand by Me, Green Mile, Misery, Pet Cemetary, and a special shout out to 'The Dead Zone" (directed by Cronenberg)
I'm sure I've probably missed a couple based on what your taste is (for instance a guilty pleasure of mine was Rose Madder (edit - sorry, I meant Rose Red which was his little mini-series) |
