I'm not 100% opposed to this, assuming he doesn't have any more years.

He has 2 more years after this year.

Yes, but why are we only going back to 2007? You just blurted it out, and I was wondering its significance.

And while I think he is a good defensive player, I don't think he's one of the "elite" ones like Bergeron, Toews, and Kopitar.

Also, I don't live in Philly, but way to take a personal shot at a whole city while we're having a hockey conversation. Maybe the reading comprehension isn't so great on your end, as my profile clearly states I'm not from philly. Very classy of someone preaching about a player from a city that recently declared bankruptcy and is the murder capital of the USA.

- jmatchett383

2007 because of hockeyanalysis.com and it's relevant because it is not a small sample size. Do you only consider players under the age of 30 elite? Zetterberg is from Sweden which is not the murder capital of the US.

So for the past week I was trying to be original and findstats to show that Fleury is not being hung out to dry by our system. I was looking at just about everything, trying to find the scoring chances for/against 5on5 and so on. Even tried to find heat maps of the opposition's shooting areas, with ranges.

Turns out Pensburgh beat me to it. Ryan spoiled my friday fun with a retweet of their findings. We came to almost the same conclusion. MAF = UFA for a reason

Yeah, I don't think he's going anywhere this year. Does he have a NMC? If so, I doubt he'd want to go to the mess that is Philly this late in his career. He probably wants one last shot at a Cup with Pittsburgh.

Listening to MM, he apparently has a source that says Malkin is miserable and wants out of Pittsburgh. Cites Montreal as a destination possibly.

I will say MM is right about having issues now vs February.

That was a good read... Sometimes in sports it's hard to separate emotion from logic, and while I really like MAF, and really want him to succeed, there is just no way that I'd want him extended at the price it's going to take.

Just read in TIOPS about Martin potentially not being a good fit for Johnston's system as he is getting older and not especially fast.

Dont usually agree with TIOPS but given how he's played so far, it might be a fair assessment.

Nonsense. This board has been telling me for years (well, maybe a year and a half, which is technically years) that Malkin is absolutely fine playing second fiddle to Sid and loves Pittsburgh.

OMG are people really this incompetent? Now there will be a certain % of Penguins fans who will talk about this the rest of the year every time we lose a game.

But who would you take in his place (keeping in mind Pittsburgh is in a "win now" mode)? SJ will likely hold onto Niemi. After that, your options are guys like Fasth, Neuvirth, Ramo, Hardin, and Gustavsson. Nabakov will be 40. And those guys are the better UFA options.

Just heard this too.

He proposed Malkin to Mtl for Galchenyuk/Gallagher package. Also said Galch wasn't a "Sputnik for Sputnik" trade as Galch is American.

For what its worth..he also called out Sid pretty good. Also good commentary on Duper and the empty net last night. Agreed with his rants on that.

Finally, his commentary on the bloggesphere was pretty interesting...

Yeah I can see that, its a threat to his profession in a way.

I would love to get Biznasty in for Adams as he suggests. I have no idea who the guys in MTL are but that seems like an under payment for Malkin.

If they want Malkin in MTL, the trade starts with Pacioretty and Galchenyuk, and they still have some to add.

The hope is that over the course of this year Greiss plays well enough to step in... After that, yeah, UFA market isn't great, you might have to get creative. A guy like Martin Jones in LA is interesting. He's an RFA, Quick is signed for forever, if Jones wants a decent raise does a cap ceiling team like that want to pay a backup a couple million? But he's unproven too.

Trying to think who is is stuck behind a longterm starter... Lehner in Ottawa? I don't know.

Yeah I agree.

Why do people call in to MM, they get burned every time. Guy calls in wants Dupes on the 3rd, MM asks who is your top6 and he couldn't name 3 ppl. It's hilarious.

I can't believe that I am even getting into this Malkin to Montreal nonsense, but if I'm trading Malkin there, it's gotta involve Pacioretty and one of those two young guys.

If you're hoping Griess can hold down the fort and you close the window on MAF and you're looking at Fasth or Nuevert? That will cost you.
