I thought Scuderi was having a solid game. I even got excited during a play that he took the puck to the offensive zone, just to get there, stop and dump the puck back directly to their D.
It's like he doenst know what to do hahaha.

Also think Despres has improved. The vision on his pass to kunitz's goal was good and he also did a good job clearing the puck on that mad scramble that happened on our crease right before dupuis and comeau went on a 2 on 1.

Also loved Greiss. Every time Fleury is playing I flinch when the opposing team shoots on goal because I never know what Fleury will do. Greiss reminded me of Vokoun. And how much I miss him. I'd be glad if we could see more of Greiss, but like you said, not likely.

Agreed 100 percent ... Pens blew a game last night and the over reactors need to blame someone... Sill needs to be in Wilkes barre ... Adams needs to be the 13 forward but scuds has not been terrible ... Can we please stop blaming him for the mistakes others make. I agree his 3+ mil cap hit is an albatross ... But the only possible way to boost his value is to play him and hope for the best...

I get the idea of getting value for mid level goaltending, which is what both greiss and MAF have given us. but MAF ceiling is higher than greiss. I am not gonna advocate resigning him long term, though I do believe that will happen. despite the attitude in blogisphere, MAF is still a fan fav. especially with the ladies. lots of MAF gear out there. He has the support of his teammates, especially the stars. greiss didnt play any better in his one chance so far than MAF has. He collapsed at the end of the game with his team. if the pens go with greiss and, for poops sake, markstrom next couple years until jarry/murray are ready, fine with me. if the pens, after losing martins salary and with the cap going up, sign MAF for 2-3 years to fill the gap, also fine with me. the pens are not spending an exorbitant percent on their goaltending

I would not want to be in the position the Flyers are in with musical chairs in net. Bringing in a guy every 2 yrs and hoping it works out seems doomed for failure.

Just because the Flyers are really poor at evaluating the position doesn't mean you can't find guys to do the job with that method.

Lets just get this out there, Gibbons sucks absolutely sucks, he has no spot on any NHL team. He is a good AHL player, that is his ceiling.

Griess is a backup for a reason, that reason is he isn't a starter.

fair argument, though its not just the flyers. pens, barring a blockbuster trade then, would have to sign MAF long term. no other viable option for a long term solution next year. IMO getting a bridge to when Jarry/Murray have a shot is the way to go. whether its MAF getting a Miller type deal (6 mil over 3 years) (hopefully with a modified trade clasue for the last year) and a cheap backup like greiss is this year, or going with a mid range starter. the fluery route would cost the pens 7 mil in cap. the griess or other route probably around 4 mil. (cause if greiss plays well enough to be a "starter" for a cup team he will need around three mil a year to resign) with the cap increase and more cap flexability with martin gone, that 3 mil isnt a deal breaker for me.

A contest winner would be an upgrade on last year's top six
- Ryan_Wilson

Ha!
But those two I mentioned are good bottom six players on any team as well as Goc.

Downie should be too, not as certain on him at this point.

Minn has 7.7 mil free this year, drop the 2.6 for Nino, add 5 for Martin, then maybe give him 4 yrs at 6 to resign him. They have plenty of room for that. Most of their young F's are on ELC's too.
- sammy87

I agree. Martin's a great player, but I don't think any team besides bottom feeders like Florida and Buffalo can justify giving Martin 7 mil. 6 sounds good for a veteran's final big time pay check. Its a good fit for both teams.

I'm not in love with keeping MAF long term, but promoting someone we saw a small sample of last night to hold the fort for several years until the prospects might one day take over is IMO a worse idea than musical chairs. If Greiss can prove to be a starter then keep him. If MAF wants to stay for under 4, id keep him. I would like a back up to handle 25-30 games/yr. Halak would have been nice, but we were a yr off.

I'll hold off on any Griess opinion until I see him play 10 games in a Pens uni.

One game in though, I'm intrigued.

Interesting read indeed. Thanks for posting.

Some valid points, love or hate Madden.

What to do, what to do...

I still say no way they trade him. I'd be shocked if they ever did. Mario wants the offensive talents. He adds value to the franchise.

Any chance these teams with tough luck on the blue line have called JR yet?

Why does trading Malkin come up after every time he has a mediocre game?

Glad to see Neal get the hatty last night... He had his issues here (like most of the Pens in recent years), but his shot is a thing of beauty. He might disappear for a dozen games, but when he is hot, he has as good of a release and shot as anyone in the league, and everything seems to go in. I just hope that he cools off before Saturday.

Pretty much sums up how I have always felt about Malkin. For all the stats that get thrown out around here, who is the highest paid player to win the cup in the cap era? How many cup teams since then have had a player paid that much?

I honestly didn't think there were many valid points, I mean especially where he says Crosby is a non-factor when he plays poorly, which in my opinion is false, when Sid does play poorly he often takes frustrating retaliatory penalties... but so does Geno. I tend to recall Sid having a nice "Controller disconnected" GIF made of him, much like Ovi did too. I just don't think singling out Geno is fair, I tend to think much of his points aimed toward Malkin can also be aimed towards Crosby. If anything, maybe Sid should be more under the microscope, contracts shouldn't be the issue in my opinion, the C on his chest should be. In the article he says Sid "isn't that kind of captain," well, isn't being the captain an changing responsibility, on and off the ice? Every player has lackadaisical shifts... I dunno, I just feel like he's been targeting Malkin ever since he started spewing the "should have traded Geno and kept Staal" garbage... and I'm not attacking Sid or Geno, I enjoy watching both of them play, but I think most of his points can go towards both players as well.

Would be fun word play to have a second line with Geno and Nino
