I heard a caller on WGR yesterday ask a great question and wasn't sure if anyone brought it up on here. After this upcoming draft, The Sabres will have had four drafts of 1st rd building. Grigorenko/Girgensons, Ristolinen/Zadorov, Reinhart, 3 1st's. Add in players like Compher, Fasching, Bailey, Possler, Baptiste, Lemieux, McCabe, Pysyk, etc, I could keep going. How soon, after this summer's draft, do we expect to be competitive? Playoffs? Contenders?

My personal answer, they should be fighting for the final playoff spot next year.

This team was built to fail this year. No coach can make a player perform when they know they are expected to lose. That said, Nolan is doing to Reinhart what Ruff etc did to grigorenko. Play him with talent or send him down, end of story. I think some veterans lost respect for the coaching staff when Grigorenko was sent down (I agree he should have gone down but I thought he earned a look). He was told what to do to make it to the NHL, he did it according to the coaching staff, and was sent down.

If they a top 2 pick they should be competitive. Armia and Grigorenko should be here full time, and Ristolainen should be a solid top 4 guy next year

How bad does it have to get for Nolan to be fired?

SPORTSNET: Elliotte Friedman reports the Boston Bruins and Buffalo Sabres did talk seriously about Sabres right wing Chris Stewart but it doesn’t appear a match at this time. The Sabres asking price is rumored to be either two young player or a young player and a draft pick…It’s also believes the Sabres asking price for Tyler Myers is so high because of the risk he’ll blossom elsewhere as a star.

I got that from Spector's site, he has another article about Stewart and the Jackets also.

yea I read that same thing about Stewart last night too... they want a prospect and a 1st rounder for him.

The Myers thing is definitely out there but I don't know if it is Buffalo actively shopping him or if they are just willing to listen to offers to get blown away.

The strange part is it look like despite that, and the Amerks playing great, no one will be at the game Wednesday

Sounds like Darcy Regier isn't the only one who "overvalues his players".

Not that a poker game is a bad strategy at a time like this.

The Grigorenko thing is just a numbers game at this point IMO. Reinhart will be sent back... Zadorov will be sent back... And then I think that Grigo comes up and plays. It is just that I think. Once Pysyk is healthy we can sent down these bum D guys too..

I'm undecided on going. I have the tickets, but I also leave for Florida on Friday so I have a LOT to do. I also feel bad because I'd be gone all day Wednesday between work and then the game and I'm dropping my dog off at my mom's for her to watch him while I'm gone Thursday night after work. I feel like I should probably stay home and spend some time with him.

There's really no reason for those guys to get moved in October. So unless its a killer deal there is plenty of time.

Exactly... if someone wants a team to give up a quality player this yearly on... you have to pay for it.

Pretty much.

Also, after reading that Friedman article, I'm convinced the Myers rumors are pretty much BS.

Murray has stated that after he trades a player he doesn't worry about whether they do well or not, he's no longer a concern of the Sabres. So why would he be concerned Myers turns into a star somewhere?

I'm so torn. I'd love to go see the Amerks play without having to drive over an hour to get there. It would also be nice to see a good hockey game and not the garbage I've been subjected to so far.

I haven't had time to look at the stats from the game. Did he not play at all? Or just limited time?

I really hope the next coach hired has ZERO Buffalo ties.
