Yeah I would like to keep him at center growing pains and all. He could turn into that big center everyone was clamoring for in the summer. - mdw7413
He's learning on the fly, so that obviously has to be difficult. Add in that's it the NHL and I can't imagine how fast the pace must be. The only ting that worries about him at center is the line he plays on. Nash and Kreider aren't bad defensively but the center has to do more work in the middle. You might that "rookie" defensive mistake here and there. But he's going good right now. |

Yeah the defensive role for forwards is something that usually takes a little more time and can be learned. Can't teach some of the other skills Hayes has. Players either have it or they dont.
Wonder if they teach much defensive hockey at BC, 1st Kreider now Hayes. |

The only thing they Teach at BC is how become NHL main stays. Ask, Boyle, Kreider, The Hayes brother. Gaudreau, Gionta, Schneider. Former BC Eagles include Leetch and Joe Mullen. BC just teaches Greatness.

The first glimpse at true advanced analytics...not this Corsi proxy stuff:
According to tracking done by PowerScout Hockey, Carl Hagelin has the highest top speed, of the players tested, in the NHL. (Sportsnet)
Some of the players tracked included Alex Ovechkin, Taylor Hall, Michael Grabner, Patrick Kane, Sidney Crosby, Marty St. Louis, Phil Kessel, Tyler Seguin, Nathan Mackinnon and Rick Nash. (Powerscout, via Sportsnet)
Hagelin’s top speed came in at 37.10 KPH which equals 23.053MPH.
St. Louis had a top speed of 35.90 KPH which equals 22.307 MPH
Nash had a top speed of 35.10 KPH which equals 21.810 MPH.
Hagelin also spends the most time in the league at 20 km/hr or more in the league with 44.2% of his 13.36 per game coming at that speed.
This would be a cool blog idea Jan and could spark some conversation amongst different fanbases on this site. |

Corsi and Fenwick have a place. Like hen people say Jagr is advanced stats, higher end player, you can see it. He's had different line mates with the Devils and he's made ever one of his line mates better in traditional and advanced stats. What I'm not ok with is someone telling us that Anton Stralman had a Corsi equal to or just south of Drew Doughty's. Ok so by that standard Stralman and Doughty are equals. Give me a break. |

For sure. I agree that corsi and fenwick have their place. For example, its no coincidence that almost all playoff teams have high corsi with a couple exceptions of course. But there are so many variables that go into individual player possession statistics that its still very sketchy.
Flames fans think brodie is better than mcdonagh and just as good as keith because of corsi. He's a great defenseman but come on... |

Only a few players were tracked. Don't think he was one of them, yet. |

I think we need to create a kreider hat trick. Like a goal, minor penalty, and putting an oppenent on his ass. |

Speaking of analytics, just saw the Corsi numbers for the Rangers, Zucc with the highest at 59.9% 1 assist and Nash with the lowest at 46% 8 goals 1 assist, early season proof that Corsi is flawed |

The Kreider: Goal, injury on goalie which is not penalized and a random minor penalty. |

But last year in the Playoffs Nash had one of the best, non LA Kings, Corsi going. |

Fully Healthy I would like to see:
Kreider Hayes Nash
Duclair Stepan St. Louis
Hagelin Brassard Zuccarello
Malone Moore Stempniak
If Duclair is gonna stay, I think its important to have him play with Stepan and St. Louis who are both very good and responsible defensively. That could allow Duke to be free'd up a little and at the same time, he could benefit from learning a bit from those 2. - xcheckmajor
I wouldn't put hags w brass and zucc; not a good fit -IMO you
Need a shooter to finish, a net presence to create space and rebounds.
or a creative guy who can mesh. Hags doesn't really excell
At any of those; he's got speed & tenacity & more speed -I'd use
Him on a 3rd line where he can create some havoc even all by himself. |

Honestly I like it, doesn't have a typical "Fourth Line" per say, but if AV is just rolling all four anyway who cares. Malone and Glass can switch spots. Or one of the two can move up to play with Brass and Zuke and let Hagelin play with Moore and Stempniak. |
