I think it's more about the effort than the result. If they play like they did for most of last night and still lose, it will be because the other team beat them. I hate seeing games where they beat themselves.

Hire hypnotist, convince Flyers every team they play is the Penguins in Pittsburgh.
Boom! That's the formula.

It really comes down to who's eaten more recently, more or less. It's a simple hunger equation, really. You take the team's hunger coefficient, raise it to the calorie intake, and divide by the amount of seconds since eating.

I could see it all going wrong when the hypnotist accidently says every game is like playing the Rangers at MSG

I haven't eaten breakfast. I may try out for the NHL today. Before lunch of course. Wawa has killed many a players dreams of NHL stardom, but who can resist the Gobbler?

Chris VandeVelde (6:53, minus-two)

He's also 1/7 on faceoffs.

Time to go back to Allentown, Chris. We need a 4th line center who can win draws and be solid defensively.

Yeah. That wouldn't be good. That place is a house of horrors. Are the Flyers playing there on Halloween night? Would be fitting.

Ah. Simple enough -- glad to see this whole "hunger" thing is quantifiable and predictable, which certainly would indicate that it is sustainable. Since we know what it is and who has done it properly before a game.

Wait, what?

Akeson finished even, but I can't but think those goals were his fault

How the hell is VDV -2 in less than 7 minutes of ice time in a game the Flyers win by 2 goals? Would seem hard to accomplish such a feet.

I don't think VDV has enough hunger. 5 days in solitary confinement should remedy that issue.

Bill,

Grossmann seems to be skating a bit better this year. He is obviously never going to be a mobile defenseman. He has obviously had some injury issues but is the perceived marginal increase in his skating (IMO) due to summer rehab, a new work out regime, etc.? He doesn't seem to be lumbering around the ice as much as last year.

Lol, Arty played a good game, when he wasn't stapled to the bench.

Can't wait to stay there. Looks fabulous except for the one review on Yelp.

"I would give this place 1 star. The room wasn't that nice, but it's impossible to tell who was responsible for it. The owners? The staff? The previous occupant? I wouldn't recommend this to anyone."

I give praise for when it's due and Coots had a GREAT game! I loved Bellemare's hustle goal with his stick on the ice the entire time giving Coots a target to hit. Props to Emery on a solid game. It's a shame that Mason doesn't get the same defensive effort from his team.

Warden Berube doesn't send players like VandeVelde to solitary.

Wasn't there a reported 11 different team scouts at game last night?
Maybe Akeson was out for an audition? Or maybe our trade talks will die because of 1 win.
I still hope Hextall is looking for a way to improve his teams play on a consistent basis

I'm confused-- when he gets to Allentown, wouldn't he then be hungry to make it back to the NHL? Is it safe to assume "AHL Hunger" and "NHL Hunger " are two totally different things, with all players in the NHL hungrier?

That makes sense, right?

Thanks Bill. I don't know why the Flyers continue to be high on VandeVelde. All he does is skate, and dig in the corners. I guess management is still fascinated with the size of players, rather than those possessing an all around game. The Flyers were lucky last night, that the Pens weren't able to sustain their first 10 minutes worth of pressure. As usual, the Flyers just aren't able or willing to put forth a complete game. In addition, I wish folks would lay off of Mason. When you face 40 shots or more each loss, it's hard to criticize him in my book. In addition, when your forwards are not coming back to assist the D, then it's hard to keep up with all the players buzzing around the net, and paint. Too many times, have I seen the forwards just watching the puck, and waiting for the puck to come to them. I don't know if they are just lazy, or that is the way that they operate. I would expect that from the Oilers, but the Flyers? Sorry, Oiler fans. Blaming their poor D play on the lack of Coby, and Kimmo is a poor excuse for the other players. Guys need to step up, and take some D zone responsibilities. Finally, why do we enter the O zone, and not establish some pressure? Our forwards seem to play "one, and done." or go slowly go for a line change. Certainly more O zone play would knock down some of the shots against them.
Anyway, I hope that VandeVelde is gone soon, and that Jones can have more playing time. Rinaldo is another player that I would seriously look at as well. I know that the team would lack some grit, but would bringing up Straka help out with our speed a little bit, and add some scoring?
Thanks for listening.

I thought MDZ looked good. I just wish they'd get him away from Schenn. MDZ makes some mistakes and Schenn isn't ever able to pick him up. I wouldn't mind seeing MDZ with Coburn when he comes back.
