So, Couturier has 5 points in 7 games. All at even strength. As an interesting tidbit, he's never scored a PPG in 212 games played. In fact, he has 7 points shorthanded and 8 points on the PP. Kind of an indictment on how the team has used him throughout his brief career.
- PhillySportsGuy

Yes and no. For the most part, how he has been used is a big part of it. But he has been given some PP time. But he hasn't been very good on it. But to be fair, the Flyers 2nd unit as a whole has never been great since he's been here.

I was thinking about this earlier and I figured I'd post since it's a slow day. My all time favorite and least favorite Flyers in line combos. Very fitting.

Favorites
LeClair - Lindros - Giroux
Gagne - Forsberg - Recchi
Richards - Briere - Simmonds
Kapanen - Primeau - Lappy

Pronger - Desjardins
Timonen - Johnsson
Pitkanen - Carle

Cechmanek
Boucher

Least favorites
Calder - Harry Z - Zherdev
Carcillo - Nodl - Asham
Eager - Rinaldo - Rosehill
Shelley - Boulerice - Tibbetts

Hatcher - Rathje
Lilja - Parent
Eminger - Walker

Leighton
Hackett

- NickTheKid87

Looks like fun

LeClair - Lindros - Recchi
Gagne - Roenick - Simmonds
Amonte - Forsberg - Briere
Brashear - Brind'amour - Laperriere

Pronger - Desjardins
Coffey - Johnsson
Timonen - Coburn

Emery
Hextall
.....................

I've only really disliked Kyle Calder, Randy Jones, Freddy Myer, Andras Nodl and Riley Cote. Lilja was definitely a bad pick up.

The Downie hate I don't understand. I thought he redeemed himself alright last season next to Couturier and Read.

Downie did redeem himself. For like 12 games. Then he was an anchor dragging down that 3rd line. If he was injured, that's fine, but he did neither himself or the team any service by playing so poorly while injured. Basically, past his one good stretch, he was flat0out awful.

I think people see what they wanna see when it comes to Schenn. Both players on the third pair have areas to their game they need to clean up.
- SuperSchennBros

I don't think Luke Schenn has been great by any means this year. Nothing in his play screams give that player more ice time. But in terms of the -8. I know where the breakdowns have been on every goal he has been on the ice for that have led to that -8. And he hasn't been responsible for most of them. That being said, that's only 8 shifts, in 117 minutes of total ice time.

If a guy is hurt, a guy is hurt. Concussions are a tricky thing. Most people might think they're fine. There's a difference between playing with a concussion and not being 100% if you have one and being young and taking bad/reckless penalties because your young and mature. I saw a lot of growth in Downie last season and he was one of very few bright spots for the Pens last night. I'd take him back at one million for one or two seasons.

He's litrilly the only player on the team who isn't a markedly better player on the PP than 5v5. Litrilly.

I personally believe we're gonna need a guy Luke Schenn long term unless we can upgrade over him. I believe Grossmann will be gone with two seasons, which is fine, it's something I can live with. Once Grossmann is gone, Schenn will have to move up, maybe only on to the second pair. If he's paired with players like Timonen or MacDonald, he'll be alright. If you keep placing him next to hot garbage like Meszaros or Del Zotto, he's doomed. The guy next to him has to be responsible too.

Some interesting numbers thus far

G and Jake lead the team in points at 9. Jake has 7 of his 9 at even strength.

G leads the team in SOG with 33. Shooting% is only at 6.1 (11.9% career).

Simmonds has 5 goals, is +4 and is shooting 20%. All lead the team. (Career 12.7% shooter).

Luke Schenn is a -8, the worst on the team, despite playing the fewest minutes of any defenseman (Even Schultz). His Partner MDZ is -5 and has played 18:30 per game.

Mark Streit is averging a point per game (7 pts in 7 gms). He also leads the team in ice time at 23:40 per game. MacDonald is second with 22:56.

Giroux, Streit, Simmonds, VL and B. Schenn have yet to take a penalty.

Every forward in the top 9 has scored at least 1 goal thus far.

- PhillySportsGuy

Fraud

Jake is overrated and looks like he has a big butt when he protects the puck. Freak.

Fraud

Simmonds is the only person on this team that cares and is pretty good I guess.

Possession ends with Luke Schenn, the Oak Tree.

Schultz is just as bad as Schenn because their last names start the same. Guilty by association. Also, he's a pylon out there, and he sucks.

MDZ can't play D and is a former Ranger. I don't even know why Hextall even took at look at him. Hextall is just as bad as Homer. Tapfacing Egg on Dance.

Streit does that spin move every game like 9 times per game and loses the puck every time. He sucks.

MacDonald also sucks but he might not I unno it depends maybe

(frank) who cares if they haven't taken a penalty yet that's because their pussies FIGHT MORE

Every forward in the top 9 sucks.

P.S. Couturier has shown no offensive promise in the history of Earth's celestial rotation and will continue to put up 30 point seasons because he's horrible.

You're right, Grossmann may not be here a year or two from now. But isn't it about time that Luke Schenn surpasses Grossmann as a player. And pushes the Coaches for more playing time? That hasn't happened to this point. And right now, Grossmann is definitely the better overall player. I think Luke Schenn has been put in a lot of tough spots this year, and some bad puck luck. But he also hasn't done a lot to warrant playing more.

I agree but my point is Grossmann is at least seeing consistent time with better players. To me the only difference between Streit and Del Zotto is effort level and willingness to get one's nose dirty. Even Coburn couldn't carry Bruno Gervais. If Schenn saw more time with Timonen or MacDonald, Ithink we'd see improvement. I though Luke Schenn was one of our better defenseman in the playoffs.

Oh I'm not saying he has but what I am saying is, if we play him with better players, we get a better look at him. Once we get a better look, then we get a better idea of whether or not he has a future here.
